Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The Process Data Engineer will design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and architectures to enable advanced analytics and data-driven decision-making across manufacturing and engineering processes. This role is critical in advancing Manufacturing 4.0 initiatives and leveraging Databricks as the primary data engineering platform. This role will be responsible for end-to-end data lifecycle management, from ingestion through modeling and consumption, across multiple manufacturing sites.
Key Responsibilities
Data Architecture & Pipeline Development
- Design and implement scalable ETL pipelines for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data using Databricks and related tools.
- Integrate data from multiple sources (process control systems, IoT sensors, ERP, MES, SCADA, PLC, and quality systems) into a unified lakehouse medallion architecture.
- Define and enforce standards for naming, metadata, and data modeling.
Data Management & Governance
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with governance standards.
- Implement and maintain data security, access controls, and role-based permissions.
- Develop and maintain data dictionaries, context maps, and lineage documentation.
Analytics Enablement
- Collaborate with data scientists and process engineers to deliver datasets for machine learning and statistical modeling.
- Create and optimize queries, dashboards, and visualizations for operational insights using Databricks SQL and BI tools (Power BI, Tableau).
Process Optimization & Manufacturing 4.0
- Support predictive and prescriptive analytics initiatives.
- Act as a subject matter expert on data-driven process improvement and troubleshooting.
- Optimize pipelines and queries for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency in the cloud environment.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Proven experience in Databricks for data engineering and analytics workflows.
- Strong skills in SQL, Python, and Spark for big data processing.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and lakehouse architecture.
- Experience with Git-based version control and collaborative development practices (branching, code review).
- Experience with data validation and testing frameworks (e.g., unit tests for data pipelines, data quality checks).
- Knowledge of statistical analysis and process control concepts (SPC).
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Experience with machine learning pipelines and MLOps.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and industrial data systems.
- Certification in Databricks or related technologies.
