Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Product Line Planner
Purpose:
The Product Line Planner ensures the seamless coordination of demand and supply planning for specific product lines, driving both short-term and long-term strategies to optimize customer service, inventory, and production efficiency. The role requires collaboration with manufacturing, commercial, and product management teams to ensure accurate planning, timely execution, and alignment with business goals.
Description of the role:
The Product Line Planner is responsible for managing the day-to-day and mid-term supply and demand planning processes for assigned product lines. Working closely with production, logistics, and demand teams, the planner will ensure that forecasted demand is met efficiently and effectively through accurate planning and execution. The Product Line Planner plays a critical role in optimizing production schedules, maintaining inventory targets, and contributing to continuous improvement in supply chain operations.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate plant and regional reviews, ensuring supply and demand plans align with business goals and customer needs.
- Lead the creation of supply plans for SIOP, ensuring alignment with manufacturing operations, supply chain and business objectives.
- Perform scenario planning and quick-turnaround capacity modeling to address supply gaps and identify opportunities.
- Analyze supply and demand gaps and communicate with stakeholders to ensure alignment with overall product strategy.
- Coordinate security of supply plans, managing accelerated recovery plans (aRPM) to meet customer demand and recover lead times.
- Track and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), identifying and escalating issues related to performance gaps.
Provide support for new product introductions and phase-outs, including the management of inventory and supply plans.
Engage with plant and global teams to optimize capacity, ensure flexibility, and facilitate effective communication. - Represent manufacturing in forecast consensus meetings, balancing statistical forecasts with commercial insights to develop accurate MPS/MRP plans.
- Participate in Plan Supply Chain Staff ensuring alignment on production schedules and maintaining inventory targets, including prebuilds and stocking plans.
Engage with SC and Product Team stakeholders weekly with Product Line Overviews and Product Team Plans. - Represent all Supply Chain functions within Product Team structure to drive alignment between supply chain capabilities and business objectives.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to business-critical projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in supply chain, production planning, or demand planning.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in demand forecasting, capacity planning, and scenario modeling.
- Collaboration skills to engage with cross-functional teams and customers.
- Presentation and excellent communication skills at different organizational levels.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency in production planning.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate potential supply chain issues and implement preventive actions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and advanced reporting skills.
Preferred Requirements
- MBA or Master’s degree
- Professional certification in supply chain management, operations, or engineering (APICS, PMP, Six Sigma)
- Familiarity with SAP or equivalent ERP systems and advanced supply chain planning tools.
