Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Direct a staff of Product/Process Engineers that serve as owners for released products and processes ensuring functional and cost-effective delivery of products from optimized processes.
Lead Global Programs to execute the OCS Division strategy to drive engineering solutions, proactive (preventive) quality and standard processes throughout the Value Stream and Product Life Cycle specific to customer needs.
Develop and execute systems and processes based on manufacturing and engineering capabilities to promote prevention and risk reduction.
Ensure global alignment of products and processes ensuring lowest cost, reduced complexity and efficient delivery of products and processes to manufacturing and our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Clarify, understand, and document customer requirements, product specifications and product applications
- Drive technically rigorous root cause analysis based on engineering principles and process/product understanding
- Ensure consistent evaluation of process and product changes through structured experimental plans, statistical data analysis, qualification and change approval while balancing speed to market and profitability
- Support and execute qualification of cost reduction opportunities
- Quickly and effectively respond to customer and commercial requests for rapid product changes
- Contribute to the definition and goals impacting the continued improvements of the team and DE

- Broaden and deepen product and process understanding within solution sets
- Participate on product teams and serve as DE representative aligning teams on DE deliverables
- Manage support of Product Teams and engage in the deliverables of the team
- Execute on the Product Team roadmap
- Drive employee development plans and metrics
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor of Science or Engineering Degree or higher in relevant discipline
- 6 plus years total of development and/or manufacturing engineering experience
- 4 plus years of combined managerial and supervisory experience
- Project management of significant scope in complexity, investment, and impact
- Certified DMAIC Green Belt
- Knowledge or experience in Lean methodologies (Value Stream Mapping, Process Mapping, Kaizen Events, and Error-proofing)
- Knowledge or Experience in PQA methodologies
- Knowledge or Experience in New Product Introductions including Change Management
- Effective leadership, organization, and planning skills
- Excellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skills
- Must be a self-starter, able to work in team environment and motivate others
- Conversational English is a must
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Working knowledge of Corning processes (New Product Introduction, Quality Systems, and Change Management)
- Working knowledge of Corning Optical Communication products
- Field application experience
