Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The Purchasing Supervisor oversees daily procurement operations to ensure timely, accurate, and cost‑effective purchasing of materials and services. This role leads a team of buyers focused on transactional purchasing activities, supplier communication related to orders, and issue resolution. The position ensures compliance with internal processes and supports production continuity through effective execution of purchase orders.
Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Management
- Supervise, coach, and support a team of tactical buyers.
- Set priorities, allocate workloads, and monitor daily purchasing performance.
- Conduct performance reviews and assist with skill development.
Purchasing Operations
- Oversee the creation, release, and follow‑up of purchase orders.
- Ensure materials are ordered on time according to MRP and production needs.
- Verify order accuracy (pricing, lead times, quantities, terms) within established agreements.
- Address and resolve day‑to‑day purchasing issues such as delivery delays, shortages, incorrect shipments, and PO discrepancies.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with Planning and Warehouse teams to avoid stockouts or excess.
- Manage urgent or critical orders to support production continuity.
Supplier Interaction
- Communicate with suppliers regarding delivery dates, order confirmations, and shipment status.
- Escalate recurring supplier performance issues to Strategic Sourcing or Supplier Quality teams.
- Follow up of established contracts, pricing, and terms set by the Strategic Sourcing Managers.
Process & Data Management
- Ensure purchasing transactions comply with company procedures and audit requirements.
- Maintain accurate purchasing data in the ERP system.
- Support cycle counts, invoice reconciliation, and root‑cause analysis for purchasing‑related issues.
- Identify inefficiencies in daily purchasing workflows and propose improvements (without changing supplier strategies).
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with Production, Planning, Quality, Logistics, and Finance to resolve operational issues.
- Participate in internal meetings focused on materials availability and production support.
- Support NPI or Engineering changes by ensuring timely PO updates within defined supplier terms.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in purchasing or supply chain operations.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.).
- Proficiency with Excel and transactional data management.
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Experience in a manufacturing or CM.
- Familiarity with inventory control concepts.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
