Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Position Objective


Works in collaboration with supply chain, product line, commercial and plant manufacturing management to plan and execute to a high level of customer service and cash flow performance. Leads management and optimization of Corning vendor managed inventories for the assigned customers and markets. Works in conjunction with the plant groups to implement inventory management strategies and track performance. Drives process-based performance providing a balance between both customer service levels and corning’s cash flow and inventory goals.


 Key Responsibilities


  • Responsible for managing the vendor managed inventory process (VMI), maintaining optimal inventory and service levels, customer consignment inventories
  • Primary supply chain point of contact for the commercial and manufacturing partners
  • Understands customer demand trends and seasonality and communicates forecast to the plants and S&OP process
  • Works with the commercial group and the customer to understand and manage demand volume and mix volatility
  • Enters and maintain customer orders in SAP (VMI replenishment) for all OCS product lines in VMI
  • Work with forecasting team to provide best possible MPS/MRP plans to plant through SAP for VMI items
  • Aligns process and systems to drive forecast consistency and accuracy for all OCS product lines in VMI
  • Pursues opportunities to automate and improve the inventory replenishment process
  • Anticipates project driven demand peaks and mitigates impacts to supply and demand plans
  • Drives planning to match supply and demand to ensure appropriate capacity levels at plant work centers
  • Supports the plants and division’s inventory goals, presenting to leadership as outlined by process
  • Ensures effective communication with multiple product line and commercial managers to realize demand and supply balance
  • Coordinate activities with logistics, regional and plant planning to maximize speed and flexibility at optimal overall cost
  • Collaborates with regional planning groups to assure effective implementation and maintenance of planning strategies to optimize inventory and service levels
  • Follow up with plants on expedited orders and backorder situations
  • Supports the excess and obsolescent inventory management
  • Supports supply chain VMI related end to end collaboration events
  • Often viewed as a supply chain senior level consultant, may identify additional product/service opportunities by demonstrating a complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, practices and standards required to drive continuous performance improvements and best industry practices for demand planning and plan execution


Job Requirements


  • BA/BS degree
  • Fully bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • +5 years of supply chain related experience
  • Experienced as a planning/procurement supervisor or sr. production planning positions is preferred
  • Previous exposure to direct customer interaction is preferred
  • Experience with SAP system is preferred
  • Experience working with inventory management strategies
  • Excellent presentation/communication skills at different levels of the organization
  • Self- started
  • Problem solving and analytical Skills
  • Advanced in Microsoft Office and reporting skills is a preferred
