Internal Corning Employees are provided the opportunity to review global job openings for potential interest. However, they are encouraged to do so with the understanding that whether or not they will be considered a candidate for positions located outside their geographic area (city, country, region) will depend on a number of factors such as the availability of local subject matter expertise or qualified talent, the need to obtain and availability of work authorization, costs associated with internal transfer, etc. It will be the decision of the hiring organization whether to permit employees applying outside the local area where the opening exists to be considered a candidate for that opening. It is recommended employees wishing to apply for job openings at Corning make their supervisor aware of their interest before formally applying.

  • Work with the commercial technology group and the product line management group to understand and define product requirements per existing standards and customer voices.
  • Work with the application engineering group, the product design group and the process development group to understand and identify key failure modes/causes of new products, as well as to assess the product risks.
  • Design experiments to explore failure causes and analyze failures, and to validate hypothesis and grow learnings, and finally to provide recommendations to the product design team to improve product design and performance by eliminating these failure modes.
  • Work with the process development group to translate product requirements/characteristics to process requirements, and to understand process effects on material properties and product characteristics, and finally to improve process capability and performance.
  • Work with the manufacturing group to assess and improve process instability.
  • Work with the customer engagement team to document and analyze in-field failures and to initiate proposals to PLMs and product design team for next-gen products.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Collect product information from multiple channels, and define and document product requirements
  • Perform FMEA and reliability risk assessment, and prioritize reliability activities
  • Identify reliability gaps related to specific products/projects
  • Develop reliability testing and characterization plans per project and reliability priorities
  • Develop reliability (incl. accelerated) testing methods/tools with the assistance of Corning reliability SMEs
  • Perform reliability studies, and collect and analyze data, and grow fundamental understanding and validate assumptions related to failure modes and failure causes
  • Work with technical experts as required, and explore broad solution space for new product design
  • Provide and communicate recommendations to product design team to revise design, eliminate failure modes and improve product reliability
  • Analyze process effects on product/material properties, and provide process control and/or changes to process team so as to secure product reliability as designed
