Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing engineering projects from concept through completion. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements. The Senior Project Engineer works closely with cross functional teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders to drive successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engineering projects through all phases, including planning, design, procurement, execution, commissioning, and closeout.
- Develop project schedules, budgets, resource plans, and technical documentation.
- Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, vendors, and clients to ensure project requirements are met.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical submittals for accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions to maintain scope, schedule, and budget.
- Ensure adherence to company standards, industry codes, regulations, and safety requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project team members.
- Support procurement activities, including vendor evaluation, bid review, and equipment/material selection.
- Participate in design reviews, site visits, inspections, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Prepare status reports, presentations, and project updates for management and stakeholders.
- Resolve technical issues and coordinate change management processes.
- Maintain effective communication across all project participants.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field.
- 5+ years of project engineering or project management experience.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, project lifecycle, and construction or manufacturing processes.
- Experience managing budgets, schedules, and technical deliverables.
- Proficiency in project management tools and engineering software.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Experience in mechanical, electrical, manufacturing industry,
- Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
