Role Purpose

As a Senior SCADA Engineer within Corning's Optical Communications Division, you will be a key driver in the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems across global manufacturing sites. You will bridge the gap between the plant floor and enterprise data systems, integrating automated and manual equipment with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and data platforms, ensuring operational reliability, data integrity, and cybersecurity best practices are always upheld. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Deploy SCADA Systems: Lead the architecture, documentation, implementation, and maintenance of SCADA platforms for both automated and manual manufacturing processes, ensuring accurate data acquisition and real-time operational control.

  • Systems Integration: Interface manufacturing equipment and data systems with MES platforms and enterprise data historians; collaborate with vendors to define and document equipment interface specifications and industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, MQTT, Ethernet/IP).

  • Global Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: Partner with Process Engineering, plant teams, and global manufacturing sites to capture Voice of Customer, drive process improvements, and deliver data-driven insights that support cost reduction and production excellence.

  • Technical Leadership & Cybersecurity: Provide expert guidance on SCADA systems reliability, lead technical troubleshooting efforts, and ensure all solutions adhere to cybersecurity and data integrity best practices across global operations.

Experiences/Education - Required

  1. Engineering Degree: Bachelor's degree
  2. +5 Years SCADA Experience: Proven hands on experience developing and maintaining SCADA systems (Ignition, GE iFix, or equivalent platforms) in a manufacturing environment.
  3. PLC & Industrial Protocols: Solid knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and industrial communication protocols: OPC UA, Modbus, MQTT, and Ethernet/IP.
  4. Structured Programming: Proficiency in at least one structured programming language, Python, Java, or SQL, applied to SCADA or automation development.
  5. MES / Systems Integration: Experience integrating automated and manual manufacturing equipment with plant information management and MES systems.
  6. English Proficiency: Advanced English communication skills (written and verbal) required for cross cultural collaboration with global teams in the U.S., Poland, and China.
  7. Documentation & Communication: Strong technical writing skills; ability to translate complex system designs into clear flow charts, specs, and cross-functional communication.
