Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

The Sr. Lean Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for leading the analysis, design, and optimization of complex manufacturing processes using advanced Lean methodologies. This role focuses on driving operational excellence through strategic initiatives such as benchmarking, value stream mapping, and process simulation. Acting as a technical expert and change agent, the engineer collaborates cross-functionally to implement best-in-class practices and support the organization’s transition to a Lean-Sigma culture

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the creation and continuous improvement of Value Stream Maps (VSM) for each project, identifying improvement opportunities across the entire value chain.
  • Build and validate process simulation models to estimate performance metrics such as cycle time, throughput, yield, and OEE under various scenarios
  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of manufacturing processes using Lean principles to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and ensure process stability.
  • Analyze complex production systems to identify systemic inefficiencies and propose data-driven solutions that align with business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain detailed process documentation, including standard work, process flow diagrams, and time studies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, quality, production, logistics) to ensure successful implementation of Lean initiatives
  • Support the deployment of foundational Lean tools (5S, SMED, Kanban, Andon, etc.) with a focus on sustainability and operator engagement.
  • Monitor and report on project KPIs, ensuring alignment with cost reduction, productivity, and quality improvement targets.
  • Act as a technical reference for Lean methodologies, providing guidance and support to technicians and other team members.
  • Lead multiple Lean-Sigma projects concurrently.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers and technicians.
  • Provide technical leadership in simulation modeling and data analysis.
  • Support the development of training materials and workshops.
  • Act as a change agent to promote continuous improvement in culture.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience with proven leadership in Lean projects.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools (e.g., Siemens, Simul8, Excel-based models).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma and Lean methodologies.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Master’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • Experience in high-volume, multi-product manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Experience in training and mentoring Lean teams.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
