Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Sr Project Leader

Purpose of Position:

Use both statistical tools and electrical automation skills to find and resolve cost opportunities in the process, Drive world class process performance, document and stablish new processes to reduce manufacturing cost per unit. Lead cross functional teams to achieve common objectives and communicate those effectively to the leadership.

 

Major Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Analyze process capability and cost implications using statistical tools to drive cost down.
    1. Analyze defects in the area using DEMAIC/Six Sigma tools and propose/implement cost effective solutions
    2. Understanding cost of products across all cost drivers. (Material, VOH, FOH and labor)
  2. Evaluate and propose new Process and product changes:
    • Make product/process changes when necessary to make positive cost impact to the business.
    • Understand/measure process capability in relationship with product reliability to apply good cost of quality judgment.
  3. Improve cost of quality and manufacturing without impacting customer expectations.
  4. Support the development and proliferation of new manufacturing technologies and deliver improved equipment capabilities for manufacturing.
  5. Project Management
  6. Create Appropriations Requests (ARs) to fund projects.
  7. Manage project spending to stay within budget.
  8. Create and support the establishment of a safe work environment.

  1. No direct reports.
  2. Leading cross functional teams without reporting directly and achieving the same results.

Minimum Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Engineering Degree or higher in Engineering discipline
  • Strong knowledge in connectivity process
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering business results
  • Effective technical organizational and planning skills, with ability to handle changing priorities
  • Excellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work in team environment and motivate others

Preferred:

  • Experience in process capability measurement and process improvement in connectivity processes.
  • Working knowledge of OCS / CCS manufacturing products and processes
  • Experience in DMAIC/Six Sigma project methodology
