Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Provides quality engineering support to enable improvement of processes and equipment
Key Responsibilities
- Provide key quality/service and improved capability/capacity.
- Provides leadership in problem solving, and technical expertise to ensure timely resolution of issues
- Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.
- Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.
- Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
- Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
- Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
- Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.
- May also be responsible for the unit's Performance Excellence (Six-Sigma) project portfolio, assuring the effective use of different improvement methodologies (DMAIC, Lean, DESGN, etc.) toward the achievement of division or plant strategic goals.
- Coach belts and managers in project selection and implementation; and advise division/plant management and leaders on the use of Quality tools, methods and processes.
- Follows standard practices and procedure in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
- Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors.
- Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
- Administers company policies that directly affect subordinate employees.
- Recommends changes to unit or sub-unit policies.
Experiences/Education - Required
- B.S. or equivalent technical degree (Bachelors in Engineering)
- Experience with Green belt projects
- Statistical training through Design of Experiments (DOE)
- Lead teams with clear and significant, demonstrable financial impact
- Demonstrated ability to permanently solve difficult manufacturing issues (crises or chronic) (Scrap, COQ and Cost reduction)
- Lead new process/ product/ innovation project(s) (mainly focus in NPI processes)
- Knowledge sharing across division - e.g. core technologist
- Customer focus and customer complaints resolution,
- Basic understanding of manufacturing cost accounting and drivers
- Proficient Level of English
- SPC Knowledge

- Plant experience
- Experience in process engineering
- Experience across multiple divisions, functions (cross functional teams)
- TL9000
- Master Degree in process
