Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Lead the technical and administrative management of maintenance activities for production equipment to maximize safety, uptime, reliability, and cost effectiveness. This role requires a senior engineer with strong troubleshooting capability, solid understanding of maintenance KPIs, and the ability to drive preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies, coordinate resources, improve equipment performance, and develop maintenance standards across the operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and govern preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Monitor and analyze maintenance KPIs such as MTBF, MTTR, uptime, PM compliance, breakdown frequency, spare parts consumption, and maintenance cost, and convert data into action plans.
  • Ensure accurate use of CMMS for work order management, asset history, PM plans, failure coding, backlog control, and maintenance reporting.
  • Coordinate maintenance priorities with production, process, quality, engineering, and planning teams to protect output and product quality.
  • Lead equipment upgrades, installations, commissioning, qualifications, and technical validations to ensure stable startup and long-term maintainability.
  • Standardize maintenance procedures, troubleshooting guides, PM instructions, LOTO requirements, and critical settings for assigned equipment.
  • Support spare parts strategy by defining critical spares, min/max levels, obsolescence risks, and technical specifications for replacement components.
  • Mentor maintenance engineers and technicians through technical coaching, skills development, and disciplined problem-solving methods.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using reliability, lean, TPM, RCM, FMEA, and RCA methodologies to improve performance, cost, and response time.
  • Manage the administrative side of the department including planning, prioritization, documentation, contractor coordination, budget
  • Provide advanced technical support for mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, servo, control, and automation systems in production equipment.
  • Lead complex troubleshooting and root cause analysis for chronic or critical equipment failures, and implement robust corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5–8 years of progressive experience in equipment maintenance engineering within a manufacturing or industrial environment, including hands-on troubleshooting of automated or semi-automated production equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading reliability improvements, PM/PdM optimization, equipment installations, commissioning, and technical problem-solving through stru ctured methodologies.
  • Conversational English

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience developing SOPs, PM instructions, one-point lessons, technical standards, and maintenance documentation.
  • Knowledge of spare parts management, criticality assessment, and coordination with procurement or external service providers.
  • Solid understanding of safety requirements for industrial equipment, including machine safeguarding, LOTO, and risk awareness during maintenance interventions.
  • Ability to support continuous improvement initiatives through TPM, Kaizen, Lean, and data-based decision making.
