Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The Staff Project Leader is a critical role within the manufacturing operation, supports the development, execution, and follow-up of the short- and long-term Plant Strategy, ensuring alignment across all functional areas, plant and region and driving accountability for key deliverables. This position its responsible for driving and overseeing the execution of strategic and high-impact projects that align with the plant's overall business objectives. This role acts as a key link within the Plant functional groups and between the plant-level and the broader division organization. By collaborating with plant staff, functional managers, and cross-regional teams, the Staff Project Leader ensures operational excellence, fosters innovation, and delivers measurable results to support vertical integration initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Plant Manager and plant staff to develop the plant's 1year and 3-5year strategic plans, ensuring alignment with regional and divisional objectives.
- Translate strategic objectives into actionable initiatives and projects, defining clear milestones, KPIs, and timelines.
- Regularly monitor the execution of strategic plans and ensure that progress is tracked, reported, and adjusted as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
- Facilitate periodic reviews of the plant’s strategy, identifying gaps or risks and recommending corrective or improvement actions.
- Lead, oversee, and execute high-impact projects from initiation to closure, ensuring alignment with the plant’s strategic goals and timelines.
- Develop project plans, including objectives, milestones, budgets, resources, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Monitor project progress, identify roadblocks, and implement corrective actions to ensure successful delivery.
- Collaborate with the Plant Manager and functional managers to ensure all projects align with the plant and division’s strategic priorities.
- Support vertical integration initiatives by working closely with regional and global operations teams to ensure seamless coordination and alignment.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements within manufacturing operations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
- Act as a liaison between the plant and regional/global teams, ensuring effective communication and integration of divisional strategies into plant operations.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration among engineering, production, quality, supply chain, and other departments to achieve project objectives.
- Establish KPIs for projects and strategic objectives, ensuring consistent tracking and reporting of progress toward business and operational goals.
- Prepare and present project updates, strategic plan reviews, and performance reports to plant leadership and relevant stakeholders.
- Mentor and guide team members or project contributors to build capabilities and improve project outcomes.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration within project teams.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, Operations Management, or related field (required).

- Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Operations Management, or related field (preferred but not required).
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification (strongly preferred).
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification (preferred).
- Ongoing training in advanced project management methodologies, leadership, and innovation practices.
- Familiarity with emerging manufacturing technologies and Industry 4.0 trends is a plus.
