Process Engineer Supervisor

Scope of Position:
Responsible for managing the RCC based OCS Cables engineering team within OCS cables Engineering which is part of OCS Division Engineering. The team is tasked to improve equipment and process effectiveness and yields, drive product cost reduction activities, and facilitate new technology and product introductions. Drive the application of scientific and technological principles to operations or activities in the production of cables. Support, and at times make, determinations regarding manufacturing methods, equipment layout, capacity utilization, process and product improvements, and process control systems. Drive manufacturing fundamental understanding though application of engineering first principle knowledge and methods for understanding physical phenomena to achieve specified characteristics and criteria for products and processes.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Define process limitations based on current equipment and process capabilities.
  • Develop strategies aimed at achieving manufacturing performance targets for both new and existing processes.
  • Identify and pursue cost reduction opportunities through improved process capabilities.
  • Develop strategy for 99% material utilization
  • Develop and manage the execution of equipment and process advancement, cost reduction projects to improve cable making efficiency and cost.
  • Ensure quality control issues, resulting from capability deficiencies are addressed through improvement projects.
  • Modernize product infrastructure.
  • Leverage available resource skill sets around the world in areas of technology, quality, and division engineering.
  • Manage working relationships across functional groups to accomplish business objectives.
  • Supervise team of Engineers at the RCC plant.
  • Coach and mentor engineering personnel as appropriate to build and leverage skill sets to enhance effectiveness of engineering group.
  • Assign objectives and projects to direct reports. Provide guidance on project priority to ensure direct reports are focused on the appropriate project if conflicts arise.
  • Interface with and support Development and Plant engineering on new product and process introductions, raw material changes, and equipment design changes.
  • Foster communication and sharing of best practices between cable manufacturing plants.
  • Conduct periodic Performance Development and Reviews with subordinates.
  • Establish development plans for direct reports and track progress.
  • Track and manage any capital spending projects as appropriate.
  • Provide technical recommendations to manufacturing management on equipment purchases, material choices and long-term cable plants capacity and equipment layout.
  • Ensure all work performed in a safe manner and environment.  Responsible for his/her safety, as well as that of others that may be at the facility, whether working or visiting. 
  • Responsible for observing safe work practices and being proactive for reporting any unsafe conditions.
  • Apply DMAIC principles to achieve project objectives.


Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 20% domestically and internationally
  • Travel based on business needs – must have required travel Visas and documents

Hours of work:

  • Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm (40 hrs. per week) as a base schedule.
  • Schedule will need to be flexed periodically to accommodate other time zone

Required Education:

Required Work Experience:

  • At least 7 years’ experience in plant engineering or an engineering support role to a manufacturing operation
  • At least 3 years’ experience supervising exempt engineering teams with limited local supervision

Required Skills:

  • Effective, high quality oral and written communications skills with English - Bilingual (English/Spanish), English skills > 90%
  • Strong project management skills
  • Detail oriented and able to perform with limited supervision
  • Demonstrates active leadership in ability to establish direction, set challenging goals, and clear expectations to achieve results.
  • Develop a global mindset; build business practices to address unique business dynamics of local markets and cultures
  • Exhibits sound decision-making skills and exercises good judgment to effectively analyze and simplify data from multiple sources to set direction as required.
  • Excellent problems solving and analytical capabilities (particularly statistical analysis) through using DMIAC, KT, TRIZ…etc.)
  • Good understanding of statistical analysis (histograms, regression analysis, Hypothesis Testing, DOE, standard deviation, GR&R, statistical process control, sampling plans, capability analysis)
  • Excellent computer skills (working knowledge and use of Microsoft Office)
  • Customer oriented; meets customer needs with quality results
  • Proven track record of leading and motivating a team to deliver objectives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to interact and influence at all levels in an organization
