Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of the Position:
This position is mainly focusing on micro-optics products like FAU (Fiber Array Unit Products).
The APAC EM Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting maintaining of business (MOB), product quality, continuous improvement, and new product introduction (NPI) activities at External Manufacturers (EMs) in the Asia Pacific region.
This role focuses on hands-on engineering execution, technical problem solving, and cross‑functional coordination to ensure stable supply, compliant processes, and on‑time delivery to customers in Asia, Europe, and North America.
- Manage MOB, including mold and equipment maintenance and repair, fixed assets review and status update, ECR/ECN follow up, Product Spec & Database maintain and update.
- Manage CIP, including cost reduction, focus on engineering solutions, product package improvement, yield improvement, material replacement when needed, automation implementation.
- Enable our future, manage NPI, new vendor evaluation and improvement support, product samples follow up, de-risk support, etc.
- Focus on EM capability build up and capacity build up, be ready to support internal manufacturing when needed.
- Work with different functions including supply chain, project leaders, internal plants, PE team, labs, etc. for better product delivery.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Manufacturing & MOB Support
- Support daily manufacturing operations at EM sites to prevent disruptions and ensure stable output.
- Assist with mold, tooling, and equipment maintenance, repair, and renewal activities.
- Maintain fixed asset records and support periodic asset checks and cycle counts.
- Support ECR/ECN implementation and ensure engineering changes are executed correctly at EMs.
- Maintain and update product specifications, drawings, and engineering databases.
- Product Quality & Engineering Data
- Own product engineering data accuracy, including BOMs, drawings, and specifications.
- Update BOMs in systems on time and coordinate with planners/buyers to ensure released POs are production‑ready.
- Support product qualification activities and provide complete qualification data for PE and cross‑functional review.
- Work with Quality teams to support root cause analysis and corrective actions (CAPA) at EMs.
- External Manufacturer (EM) Technical Support
- Act as a technical interface between EMs and internal PE teams.
- Clarify product drawings, specifications, and manufacturing process questions from EMs.
- Support EM capability development, especially in cable assembly processes, connectors, and cable types.
- Provide correct product documentation and material information to enable outsourcing when required.
- Continuous Improvement & Cost Reduction
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including yield improvement, packaging optimization, material replacement, and automation implementation.
- Support engineering cost‑reduction projects and track progress against targets.
- Assist in improving EM engineering performance metrics and scorecards.
- NPI & Future Readiness
- Support NPI activities using standard PEx / project management tools.
- Assist with sample builds, qualification execution, and schedule tracking.
- Support evaluation of new EMs and capability improvement of existing EMs.
- Maintain EM capability and qualification databases.
- Reporting & Communication
- Prepare and provide regular updates on:
- NPI status
- Engineering projects
- Cost reduction activities
- Communicate effectively across supply chain, quality, PE, labs, and EM partners.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (required).
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering roles.
- Experience working with external manufacturers, contract manufacturing, OEM/ODM suppliers is preferred.
- Hands‑on experience supporting NPI and qualification activities.
- Understand the FAU manufacturing process, like:

- Fiber preparation processes such as cleaving (mechanical and laser), polishing, and end face quality control
- Knowledge of FAU geometries and configurations (1D/2D arrays, pitch control, PM fiber rotation, core offset control.
- Understanding how to test optical parameters of optical cable/connector/FAU.
- Knowledge of epoxies, curing processes, ferrules, V-grooves, prisms, and MLAs used in FAU assembly, including process sensitivities
