Key Responsibilities:
• Develops and/or assists with Strategic Sourcing plans and objectives (short & long term) based on forecasts of future demand and taking into account economic and currency trends and conditions that affect GSM, the business, and the global commodity sourced.
• Works with the Business, GSSM, and Buyers on assigned global commodities to prepare and solicit competitive bids, quotations, and proposals with pertinent specifications, terms and conditions.
• Develops and reviews specifications, statements of work, performance terms and accept/reject criteria.
• Conducts negotiations with potential and/or current major suppliers to obtain maximum value.
• Leads the development and communication of global supply intelligence for assigned commodities.
• Owns the Supplier Relationship Management process for the assigned commodities.
• Develops and cultivates effective relationships with suppliers.
• Develop, maintain, and execute Shared Objectives and Service Level Agreements.
• Champions and advocates for the Global Buying Policy. Ensures compliance.
Function/Technical:
• Contract Writing/Management
o Reviews and approves contracts for the respective area of responsibility.
o Ensures all contracts are appropriately managed for respective area of responsibility.
o Understands how to correctly write a contract, obtain contract approvals, and manage a contract, based on Corning policies and systems.
• Negotiation
o Manages cross-functional boundaries and acts as a link across groups.
o Can quickly find common ground and win-win solutions (where possible).
o Builds consensus.
o Confronts difficult situations.
o Maintains objectivity.
o Keeps emotions under control.
o Uses negotiation skills to resolve conflicts.
o Not afraid to take risks, at the appropriate time, during a negotiation.
o Thinks creatively when negotiating, resulting in solutions favorable to Corning or win-win situations for both Corning and the supplier.
GSM Strategies and Plans:
o Garners necessary business resources in order to execute the GSM Strategy.
o Maps supply and distribution channels to identify potential sources of risk, develop probabilistic estimate of risk potential, and creates contingency plans to reduce or eliminate elements of risk in the event of a major supply chain disruption.
o Identifies and obtains resource needs based on opportunities and risks across the entire procured spend portfolio.
Supplier Relationship Management:
o Collects, analyzes and leverages all aspects of supplier data and GSM history, optimizing strategic sourcing and achieving significant cost savings, improved quality and or greater value add.
o Understands and manages the flow of material and information between tiered suppliers to Corning to optimize materials or services at the lowest possible cost.
o Works with key suppliers in developing joint planning and development of products and or processes, early in the process, aimed at reducing overall supply chain costs for both Corning and the supplier.
o Understands supplier strategies, key drivers, opportunities and threats and how Corning impacts or is impacted by each respective area.
Experiences/Education: Required:
• Bachelor’s degree.
• 5-7 years’ experience–supply management, or procurement.
• Experience across multiple businesses, divisions and/or technologies.
• Experience with global manufacturing and business through work or project experience.
• Experience working in a matrix environment or on a cross functional team.
