Role Purpose

Measurement Engineer needs strong technical curiosity across many technologies, and the ability to learn and desire to work with others for the progress of the business. This position requires knowledge in fiber optics manufacturing process to provide technical leadership and support to Corning product testing and inspection processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply measurement uncertainty / measurement system analysis / gage R&R techniques to ensure proper measurement system application and capability.
  • Follow up measurement related issues and coordinate necessary support from internal/external resource to fix the issues.
  • Collaborate with experienced professionals across a variety of functional groups (manufacturing, product engineering, division, IT, etc.) to develop and implement precision measurement methods and optical fiber inspection systems for emerging products.
  • Train engineering, maintenance and operation associates on use and maintenance of measurement systems.
  • Lead or participate in projects for cost reduction, process improvements to address measurement cycle time reduction, measurement uncertainty (improving quality and yield issues) or equipment cost/availability.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Optical Science/Engineering, Optoelectronic Information Engineering, Physics, or related area.
  • 2+ years of work experience in engineering function.
  • Master’s degree in Optics or similar would be considered as a substitute for years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge of geometrical optics.
  • Strong initiative and self-motivated.
  • Work effectively in technical project teams in both leadership and team member roles.
  • Problem-solving skills, able to independently define hypothesis and problem statements.
  • Strong English written and verbal communication skills

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience with Measurement Uncertainty Analysis, Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R), and/or Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
  • Demonstrated excellence engineering fundamentals, including demonstrated application of DMAIC tools and others.
  • Experience with statistical tools such as Hypothesis test, Capability Study, Regressions, and Control Charts.
  • Good project management skills to be able to manage multiple projects and tasks in parallel.
