Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

The PEx and Lean Specialist will play a pivotal role in driving organizational transformation through the deployment of Lean methodologies, process optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position will support the company’s strategic deployment by streamlining processes, reducing waste, and embedding a culture of operational excellence across all departments in region. Facilitate cross functional improvement initiatives to build capacity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Training, coaching, mentoring, and recognizing our belts in region
  • Lead, facilitate, and support Lean and Excellence projects across the organization.
  • Identify, prioritize, and execute opportunities for project improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement tools. Including mapping current processes and design optimal future-state.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, key performance indicators (KPIs), and realized benefits.
  • Ensures adherence to Corning standards for the site, iKaizen, Value Stream and team improvement boards, enabling a continuous improvement in culture and progression of the lean journey.
  • Benchmark internal processes against industry best practices and recommend enhancements.
  • Collaborate with leadership and employees to identify six sigma - Lean capability gaps and develop action plans.
  • Development and deployment of new PEx tools and concepts, Teaches/facilitates PEx belt courses
  • Support recognition activities including OEA, QiA/ Houghton Award application process.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Lean, Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or above)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Lean, Quality, operation excellence, or similar continuous improvement roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead improvement initiatives and projects.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Training and facilitation skills
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and all organizational levels.
  • Familiar AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Copilot, Power BI) preferred
