Role Purpose

Corning Bendable Glass (CBG) is a strategic growth platform within Corning’s Gorilla Glass business, enabling next‑generation device form factors for the world’s leading OEMs.

China is the center of gravity for consumer electronics innovation, speed, and scale. This role exists to win in that environment - driving aggressive OEM engagement, influencing specifications, and securing design‑ins in highly competitive, fast‑moving programs.

As Director, New Business Development – CBG China, you will act as an entrepreneur inside Corning. You will lead opportunity identification, drive commercial strategy and negotiations, and mobilize global teams to convert early‑stage engagement into sustainable revenue. Success requires resilience, decisiveness, and the ability to lead across a complex, matrixed global organization while representing the voice of China customers.

Own and execute the new business acquisition strategy for CBG in China, from customer targeting through commercial agreement and program launch. Accountable for design‑in wins, deal execution, and pipeline growth across OEMs and key value‑chain partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive new business growth by winning OEM design‑ins and commercial agreements across the China consumer electronics ecosystem in collaboration with local commercial organization
  • Act as Corning’s commercial lead for CBG in China, promoting differentiated capabilities and shaping customer perceptions and experiences
  • Develop and execute China‑specific go‑to‑market strategies aligned with global CBG priorities
  • Build deep understanding of OEM product roadmaps, requirements, and cost drivers to influence specifications and adoption
  • Lead commercial deal strategy, pricing alignment, and negotiations, partnering closely with global sales and business leadership
  • Mobilize and align cross‑functional teams (Sales, RD&E, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Finance, Legal) to execute quickly
  • Partner with Business Manager and Product Line Management team to shape offerings, roadmaps, and customer‑ready solutions
  • Navigate ambiguity, competitive pressure, and setbacks with discipline, persistence, and urgency

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Entrepreneurial, self-starting leader with a strong bias for action
  • Proven ability to influence without authority in matrixed, global organizations
  • Resilient mindset. Comfortable with ambiguity, rejection, and rapid course correction
  • Strong commercial judgment, negotiation skills, and executive presence
  • Collaborative with high accountability
  • Maintains strong technical credibility to engage effectively with OEM engineering and manufacturing teams
  • Track record in business development, commercial, or customer‑facing roles
  • Experience leading cross‑functional initiatives in complex organizations
  • Bachelor’s degree; technical background preferred
  • MBA or equivalent business experience strongly preferred

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience in consumer electronics, advanced materials, or high-tech manufacturing
  • Possess working knowledge of glass strengthening fundamentals (e.g., fracture mechanics, strengthening methods, strength testing/reliability) to translate performance into customer value propositions
  • Exposure to manufacturing, engineering, or product development environments
  • Financial and business case development experience
  • Strong China market experience with global stakeholder interaction
