Job Title: Research Scientist – Electromagnetic / Antenna Modeling
Scope of Position:
We are offering a unique job opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in an exciting field of Wireless Communications and Networking. This job provides a wide range of opportunities to invent and bring to fruition new life-changing technologies for the 5G Mobile Communication and beyond.
The successful candidate will:
- Work from the Corning Scientific Center in St. Petersburg, Russia and closely interact with other Corning R&D teams around the globe,
- Provide technical contribution to research projects and activities focusing on Antenna systems for next-generation wireless communications,
- Guide efforts for building numerical models of antennas, antenna arrays and other RF components for 5G communications,
- Study the application of Corning materials for millimeter wave and THz applications,
- Play a leading role in creation of relevant IP to protect key inventions related to novel networking solutions.
- In collaboration with experimental and testing groups, design and perform system testing and validation experiments,
- Prepare technical presentations and reports for Technology and Management teams.
Required Education and Experience:
- Master's Degree, with Ph.D. preferred, in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, with emphasis on Antenna Theory and Computational Electromagnetics,
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in antenna design and electromagnetic modeling, however outstanding candidates with less experience might be considered,
- Established track record of technical achievements in antennas and electromagnetic theory, as evidenced by publication in high-impact peer-reviewed media and patents.
Job Requirements:
- Strong background in antenna theory and numerical methods for electromagnetic computations,
- Strong track record of antenna modeling and analysis using analytical and numerical methods,
- Proficiency with industry-standard numerical tools (e.g., HFSS, Feko, CST Studio Suite).
- Excellent math background, including advanced calculus, partial differential equations, vector analysis and matrix algebra; solid background in probability theory and statistics is a plus,
- Solid programming skills in MATLAB; experience with Python or C is a plus,
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English are required to facilitate direct interaction with Corning global research teams.
Job Preferences (nice to have):
- Prior work on beamforming algorithms, antenna arrays and array signal processing,
- Hands-on lab experience with antenna measurements and characterization,
- Experience in analyzing and simulating RF propagation and wireless communication channel at various frequencies, from sub-GHz to THz,
- Good understanding of Digital Signal Processing and familiarity with wireless communications standards and contemporary radio access technologies
- Familiar with software development process and experience with version-control system (preferably Git),
- Previous experience as researcher with focus on antenna theory and design.
