Scope of Position:

We are offering a unique job opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in an exciting field of Wireless Communications and Networking. This job provides a wide range of opportunities to invent and bring to fruition new life-changing technologies for the 5G Mobile Communication and beyond.

The successful candidate will:

• Work from the Corning Scientific Center in St. Petersburg, Russia and closely interact with other Corning R&D teams around the globe,

• Provide technical leadership for research projects and activities focusing on radio access network architectures, device-to-device (D2D) communications, IoT, fog computing and vehicular networking solutions to support Corning R&D in optical and wireless communications,

• Guide efforts to build numerical models for millimeter wave propagation channels and L1, L2 and L3 communication layers of 5G NR standard, including adaptive wireless resource allocation, interference mitigation techniques as well as spectral and energy efficiency in different types of wireless networks,

• Develop novel positioning and sensing algorithms and high-accuracy location awareness tools via cooperative processing in 5G communication networks,

• Play a leading role in creation of relevant IP to protect key inventions related to novel networking solutions.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Propose and lead research projects and activities to support planning and deployment of dense Small Cell networks and enable new services and applications using 4G and 5G technologies,

• Develop, implement and validate numerical models for propagation channels and L1-L3 communication layers of 5G NR to facilitate radio resource allocation, scheduling algorithms, cooperative communication, including application of machine learning to radio resource sharing and performance monitoring,

• In collaboration with experimental and testing groups, design and perform system testing and validation experiments,

• Collaborate on various wireless system projects and execute technology transfer with R&D organizations in Corning, NY and other Corning facilities,

• Prepare technical presentations and reports for Technology and Management teams,

• 10-15% global travel is expected.

Required Education and Experience:

• Master's Degree, with Ph.D. preferred, in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or related discipline,

• 3-5 years of relevant experience of modeling and simulation of wireless systems and components OR  Established track record of technical achievements in Wireless Networks and digital signal processing (DSP) theory and algorithms, as evidenced by publication in high-impact peer-reviewed media and patents.

• Fluent Russian language

Job Requirements:

• Strong background in Wireless Communications, with emphasis on physical layer, novel architectures and signal processing technologies, including millimeter wave systems and multi-antenna communication,

• Strong track record of system modeling and DSP algorithm development for Small Cell networks, D2D communication and IoT systems,

• Experience of analyzing and simulating RF propagation and wireless communication channel at various frequencies, from sub-GHz to THz, in indoor and outdoor environments,

• Good understanding and practical experience of statistical methods of data processing, including machine learning techniques,

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are required to facilitate direct interaction with Corning global research teams.

Job Preferences:

• Good command of general purpose computational tools, specifically MATLAB, C/C++ and Python,

• Hands-on experience of operating software defined radios,

• Good knowledge of wireless communications standards,
