Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The Applications Manager – Manufacturing Systems (OCS & PCS) is responsible for end to end delivery and lifecycle management of integrated manufacturing systems capabilities OCS and PCS business.
The role partners closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Product teams to translate business needs into scalable, secure, and reliable digital solutions that support operational excellence, growth, and time to market
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Applications Leadership (OCS & PCS)
• Own the integrated manufacturing application landscape across OCS
• Lead the delivery of manufacturing digital capabilities for the PCS CPO product line, from early development through ramp and scale.
• Ensure solutions support standardized, repeatable manufacturing processes while allowing flexibility for new technologies and products.
• Define and execute the applications roadmap aligned to business priorities, capacity expansion, and product introductions.
People & Delivery Management
• Act as a people manager and technical leader for manufacturing application resources supporting OCS and PCS.
• Set clear priorities, coach team members, and ensure high performance across run, grow, and transform workstreams.
• Balance break/fix operational support with strategic project delivery.
• Ensure work is delivered on time, within budget, and aligned to business outcomes.
Manufacturing Enablement (PCS)
• Serve as the primary IT applications leader for PCS manufacturing
• Partner with PCS Manufacturing, Engineering, and Product teams to define:
• Manufacturing system requirements
• Data flows and traceability
• Integration with enterprise platforms (SAP, analytics, quality systems)
• Support new product introduction (NPI), pilot lines, and scale up activities with robust digital enablement
• Evaluate and introduce new technologies (including AI/automation where appropriate) to improve manufacturing performance.
Key Responsibilities
SAP & Logistics Enablement
• Ownership of SAP enabled logistics and manufacturing capabilities supporting OCS and PCS.
• Partner with Supply Chain and Logistics teams to ensure:
• Seamless integration between shopfloor systems and SAP
• Accurate material movement, inventory visibility, and traceability
• Support SAP enhancements and deployments that improve efficiency, reliability, and compliance.
Operational Excellence & Support
• Ensure systems meet agreed service level agreements (SLAs) and operational stability requirements.
• Lead response to critical incidents and system outages, coordinating across IT and business teams.
• Utilize ServiceNow for incident, problem, and change management.
• Maintain compliance with security, data protection, and audit requirements.
Experiences/Education - Desired
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
• Strong experience supporting manufacturing systems in a global manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated experience translating manufacturing and supply chain needs into IT solutions.
• Prior experience leading or coordinating teams, projects, or workstreams.
• Strong communication skills and ability to engage with manufacturing, engineering, and leadership stakeholders.
• Proficiency in English.
Desired
• Experience with MES platforms and shopfloor integrations.
• Experience supporting or deploying SAP in manufacturing or logistics contexts.
• Exposure to new product introduction (NPI) or advanced manufacturing technologies.
• Experience working in matrixed, multidivisional organizations.
• Familiarity with ServiceNow and ITIL based operations.
Travel Requirements
European and international travel, aligned to manufacturing sites and program needs.
