Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Automation / Mechanical Engineer (m/f/d)

 

Scope of Position

Responsible for the mechanical design, build and commissioning of complex process automation equipment. Lead small cross functional teams during the development of automated machine solutions. Deliver equipment into global manufacturing locations.

Responsibilities

  • Designing machines and setups aligned with company’s profile, especially automated manufacturing lines
  • Document and apply fundamental understanding as a critical precursor for robust automation process equipment design
  • Maintain knowledge of the newest technology developments within the manufacturing equipment and automation industry, while supporting the consistent application of new technology and best practices
  • Collaborate with advanced research & development, division engineering and manufacturing teams during the design of new equipment solutions, new product introductions, process improvements, and raw material changes
  • Define new automation designs that enable lowest cost manufacturing strategies for Corning optical communications
  • Collaborate with outside suppliers on specifying and procuring various equipment, automation systems and machine components to support projects
  • Provide detail project results through periodic internal reports and presentations for review by peers, customers, and managers
  • Lead resolution of complex equipment-related design or manufacturing issues impacting quality, cost, or delivery or safety
  • Technical documentation creation (2D, 3D) in Solidworks
  • Utilizing Autodesk Vault Professional Software to manage technical documentation

Requirements

  • Technical Bachelor or Master’s  degree in technical filed; preferably mechanical engineering or similar discipline in the area of machine / equipment design
  • +3 years of experience in position with similar experience and duties
  • Experience with SolidWorks and Autodesk Vault Professional software
  • Industrial automation experience
  • Technical drawing familiarity
  • Pneumatic systems familiarity (incl. CAD software)
  • Fluent English and Polish languages (both written and spoken)
