Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
- Lead a team of Project Leaders within the OCS Technology organization including both local and remote locations,
- Drive the successful and timely delivery of Projects for: New Product Introduction; Cost savings; and Capability development,
- Responsible for the cost, schedule, and technical performance of major projects.
- Location: Stryków, Poland
Key Responsibilities
- Lead team of project leaders in delivering projects:
- Prioritize and make project assignments to best deliver business objectives,
- Manage performance of the team. Recognize excellent behavior. Resolve capability gaps and performance issues,
- Coach and develop project leaders in: Project management skills; Leadership skills; OCS systems and procedures; Team building; change management. Includes coaching Project Leaders that are not direct reports,
- Ensure project plans and status are well developed and communicated to the organization.
- Manage project Scope, Schedule, Budget, and Quality,
- Ensure completion of reporting and record keeping of projects to: Protect and build Corning intellectual property; Maintain ISO and other registrations; Ensure proper support of corning products after project completion,
- Facilitate/administer PPW process to evaluate proposed projects for quality and adequate definition. Take corrective action to fix shortcomings as needed,
- Recruit, select and onboard new project leaders,
- Lead regular project reviews with senior OCS leadership,
- Identify, lead and participate in project management process improvement teams. Participate in the development of project management systems,
- Build a cross functional network throughout Corning including Research, COC Technology, Mfg, PLM, and Commercial.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor's Degree – Engineering,
- 7+ years in Product Development and/or Project Management,
- Ability to teach project leadership skills: Communication; Planning; Budgeting; Ownership; Team building; Business Acumen; Risk Management; Critical decision making; Conflict resolution,
- Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment,
- Strong judgement and decision making, even in stressful situations,
- Communicates effectively in English with global teams.
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Experience in manufacturing processes related to passive optical products: Automated and manual assembly; Injection molding; Sheet metal fabrication; Optical fiber termination,
- Knowledge of passive telecommunication and data center product design, application, testing and/or industry standards,
- Advanced degree (MS, MBA) or Project Management Professional certification,
- Experience working in a global organization.
Travel Requirements:
- Up to 25% including international. Primary travel locations are US, Mexico, and Germany.
