Scope of Position:

Support the development of a sustainable, global, comprehensive, rigorous engineering knowledge development program for Corning OCS, including formal “classroom” training, workshops, OJT, eLearning and certifications. This position requires a high level of technical knowledge and strong communication skills.

 

Job Responsibilities:

• Closely collaborate with OCS Divisional Engineering Managers in all aspects of the creation of the Engineering Knowledge Development program
• Work with the Knowledge Development group and Divisional Process Engineering to identify training needs for process engineers
• Develop and deliver training or collaborate with internal or external resources to develop and deliver training
• Collaborate with Corning Workforce Development and Leadership group to align training with existing and future Corning training programs
• Align the development program with HR priorities and requirements in each global region
• Advocate engineering development through interactions with peers and leadership
• Serve as an engineering mentor to younger engineers
• Facilitate mentor relationships and on-the-job training
• Recognize and foresee training and skills gaps based on business needs and organizational strategy
• Support projects – serve as a technical SME or facilitator as needed
• Network – leverage expertise in other divisions and organizations within Corning

 

Required Education and Experience:

• BS in an engineering discipline and 5+ years engineering with significant time spent in a manufacturing environment
• Basic engineering knowledge of principles on which OCS manufacturing processes are based, such as materials, polymers, basic chemistry, mechanics, transfer phenomena, etc.
• Experience in 6 Sigma problem solving methodologies such as DMAIC or DESGN
• Understanding and application of manufacturing process control and process discipline
• Statistical skills related to experimental design, process control, process capabilitystudies and hypothesis testing  
• Broad understanding and exposure to professional training programs, especially technical content                                                   
• Ability to influence others to meet goals and objectives
• Demonstrated technical leadership
• Proven ability to work and communicate across cultural barriers
• Strong communication skills – communicate technical or nontechnical information to larger groups
