Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Design and develop vision-based measurement/inspection systems (hardware + software) for high-precision components.
  • Build and optimize computer-vision algorithms (feature detection, segmentation, metrology) and deploy them in production-grade applications.
  • Integrate vision systems with industrial automation (PLC/fieldbus communications, process logic, commissioning on machines).
  • Implement and productize AI models for inspection (training/validation, inference deployment, performance monitoring).
  • Plan and run experiments (DoE), analyze results statistically, and translate findings into process/product improvements.
  • Create technical documentation (specs, test plans, validation reports) and present results to cross-functional stakeholders.

 

Requirements:

 

  • MSc/PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, or similar.
  • Strong programming skills in C# and/or Python (C/C++ is a plus).
  • Hands-on experience with computer vision (e.g., OpenCV/industrial vision toolkits) and measurement/inspection pipelines.
  • Experience integrating software with industrial control/PLC systems (Beckhoff/TwinCAT, Siemens S7-1500 or similar).
  • Practical knowledge of deploying ML/AI for vision (e.g., ONNX, detection/segmentation models) is highly valued.
  • Structured problem-solving, strong ownership, and the ability to work in an international team.
  • Good English communication skills.

 

Nice to have:

 

  • MATLAB/Octave experience and algorithm porting between environments.
  • Git + CI/CD, Linux scripting.
