Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

ROLE PURPOSE:

 

The Mechanical Design & Toolshop Team Supervisor leads the team responsible for mechanical design and toolshop support within Automation. The role ensures development, fabrication, and implementation of mechanical solutions for automation equipment, in close cooperation with other Automation functions and manufacturing stakeholders.

The position reports to the Automation Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Lead the Mechanical Design & Toolshop team in delivering mechanical solutions for automation projects.
  • Oversee design, fabrication, assembly, and modification of mechanical parts, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensure mechanical designs meet technical requirements, quality standards, and manufacturing needs.
  • Support development of practical and robust mechanical solutions for automation setups.
  • Cooperate with System Engineers and Controls Design to ensure integrated technical solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance to the team and support resolution of design and implementation issues.
  • Ensure effective toolshop support for prototyping, equipment adjustments, and technical improvements.

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Experience in mechanical design and toolshop or machine building in a manufacturing or automation environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, fabrication processes, and technical documentation.
  • Experience in leading teams or coordinating technical mechanical work.
  • Ability to develop practical mechanical solutions for automated equipment and production systems.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to work across design, build, and implementation phases.
  • Strong cooperation skills in a cross-functional technical environment.
