Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Purpose of Position:
-
- Functions as a technical resource and design owner of assigned value streams. Responsible for ensuring fit/form/function of existing products and process performance.
- Supports project execution between development and manufacturing as an impartial 3rd party with the expertise to balance risks between business demands, process performance and product assurance.
- Responsible to participate on project teams to resolve performance and customer related issues; propose product and process enhancements, opportunities for product and process alignment, and cost reductions.
- Understands manufacturing processes on assigned value stream, keeps accountability on sustaining and/or enhancing process performance.
Key Responsibilities:

- Clarify, understand, and document customer requirements, product specifications and product application
- Ensure Fit, Form, Function through appropriate qualification test plans, design control and change approval while balancing speed to market and profitability
- Quickly and effectively respond to customer and commercial requests for rapid product changes
- Drive technically rigorous root cause analysis for product integrity issues
- Support and validate product and process cost reduction opportunities through product lifecycle
- Evolve product performance to meet competitive pressure and industry trends
- Monitor performance of manufacturing processes within assigned value stream, understands process capability and support process enhancements
Education & Required Skills:
-
Bachelor’s degree in technical area/Engineering degree
-
Minimum of 4 years’ experience in development, product, or process engineering
-
Effective organization, time management, and planning skills, with ability to handle changing priorities
-
Project leadership skills, including experience working with multicultural teams.

Good use of English language to be able to clearly present technical concepts, both written and verbally
-
Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
-
Strong data-based decision-making skills, excellent problem-solving skills.

Ability to travel 10% (some international)
Desired Skills:

Product and Process troubleshooting, failure mode analysis, problem solving skills

Work experience in a manufacturing facility

Cost estimating or analysis, financial acumen

Green Belt Certification or equivalent PEx qualification

Must be a self-starter, show proactive approach able to work in team environment and motivate others

Strong interpersonal and influencing skills to be able to build relationships and participate in diverse teams within cross-functional groups and international locations
