Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The R&D Automation Development Manager is responsible for developing proprietary, technology-based automation solutions that enable cost reduction and best-in-class manufacturing performance for single- and multi-fiber connector products.
Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain the process automation innovation roadmap
- Collaborate with global automation leaders in engineering and manufacturing to strengthen the process automation community of practice
- Create resource strategies, supporting global technology projects
- Continue to grow and expand automation competencies and capabilities needed to support business objectives
- Be an advocate and role model for safety across all interactions within Corning. Ensure all work is performed in a safe manner and environment. Responsible for his/her safety, as well as that of others that may be at the facility, whether working or visiting.
- Define new automation designs that enable lowest cost manufacturing strategies for Corning optical communications
- Document and apply fundamental understanding as a critical precursor for robust automation process equipment design
- Maintain knowledge of the newest technology developments within the manufacturing equipment and automation industry, while supporting the consistent application of new technology and best practices
- Collaborate with advanced research & development, division engineering and manufacturing teams during the design of new equipment solutions, new product introductions, process improvements, and raw material changes
- Foster expectations for the authorship of record of inventions for all novel designs, following Corning's Intellectual Property management process
- Lead resolution of complex equipment-related design or manufacturing issues impacting quality, cost, or delivery or safety
Requirements:
- 5 years of combined engineering or manufacturing experience
- BS or MS degree in Engineering
- Proven track record of designing, developing, and deploying innovative automation solutions globally
- Exceptional problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Proven ability to lead complex engineering projects
- Demonstrated ability to drive creative thinking and rigorous problem-solving
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (Polish and English)
- Experience with Contract automation or integration firms
Travel Requirements:
- Approximately 5%, some international
