Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The Supplier Quality Engineer will be responsible for supporting supplier quality management to ensure that products, direct materials, and raw materials produced by Corning suppliers meet defined quality standards. This role will work with suppliers, Corning receiving plants, GSM, engineering, and cross-functional quality teams to monitor supplier performance, resolve quality issues, and support continuous improvement activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor supplier quality performance, support supplier audits, and help ensure supplier compliance with Corning quality requirements and applicable standards.
- Work with suppliers to identify and resolve quality issues using structured problem-solving methods, statistical analysis, and basic Six Sigma tools.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers to improve quality, reduce defects, and strengthen supply chain performance.
- Support supplier development activities by communicating quality requirements, following up on action plans, and monitoring supplier performance trends.
- Review supplier manufacturing processes and collaborate with engineering, procurement, and quality teams to confirm process capability and compliance with quality requirements.
- Maintain documentation of supplier quality data, audits, non-conformances, corrective actions, and quality test results.
- Support verification that supplier products and processes comply with relevant regulations, standards, and Corning requirements.
- Participate in supplier quality projects, including new supplier qualification, process changes, corrective action implementation, and quality improvement plans.
- Support execution of product quality architecture activities, including APQP and applicable IATF Core Tools.
- Perform or support quality system, process, and product audits using applicable quality standards and specifications to verify compliance with Corning quality requirements.
- Collaborate with Corning Supplier Quality teams across regions and business functions.
- Provide periodic progress updates on assigned supplier quality activities and project actions.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor of Science in engineering or a related technical discipline.
- 3-5 years of experience in quality assurance, quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
- 1 plus years of experience in supplier quality management, supplier development, or supplier-facing quality activities.
- Working knowledge of quality systems, quality standards, and basic audit practices.
- Familiarity with quality tools and methodologies, such as root cause analysis, corrective action, Six Sigma, and statistical analysis.
- Good problem-solving, data analysis, and project coordination skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrate fluency in both Polish and English, spoken and written.
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent problem-solving certification.
- Knowledge of ERP/QMS platforms such as SAP, ETQ, SharePoint, or Windchill.
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or equivalent quality certification preferred.
- ISO9001 or TL9000 audit exposure preferred.
Travel Requirement: Up to 50%, based on business needs and supplier locations.
