Scope of Position:

Corning’s summer internship experience is rich with hands-on learning. You’ll live, work, and experience the communities in which Corning operates, while building on-the-job skills. As our intern, you will be involved with Research and Development within Corning’s Scientific & Technologies (S&T) segment. As our intern you will work on a multi-disciplinary team to design, test and demonstrate devices for use in cell culture. You will be responsible for performing cell culture, image analysis and data analysis and problem solve issues. At the internship conclusion you will provide a technical presentation of your work at Corning.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed adherent cell culture experiments in both standard and non-standard vessels
  • Problem solve bioprocess issues with the team and perform root cause analysis
  • Collect proof-of-concept data using controlled laboratory experiments
  • Measure and document prototype performance


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • M-F, 40 hours/week
  • Duration: Summer 2021; 8-12 weeks


Education and Experience:

  • Major in Bio-Engineering or relevant program
  • Masters or undergraduate level student who has completed at least three years coursework


Required Skills

  • Proficient in cell culture and imaging techniques
  • Knowledge of biology and engineering principles
  • Ability to safely conduct laboratory experiments


Desired Skills

  • Knowledge and experience of programming language such as MATLAB
  • Knowledge and experience of CAD software such as SolidWorks
  • Able to work independently and as part of a diverse/multidisciplinary team


Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership):

  • Must be ambitious, self-motivated and demonstrate strong curiosity of the technical work
  • Proactive, responsive approach to projects and timelines.
  • Respect others and be willing to work across diverse cultures and backgrounds
