Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group): Senior Research Scientist, with emphasis on Bioscience. Position will participate in CTCSV research in Applied Materials Science. Provide Life Science and creative material science solutions for multi-disciplinary projects at CTCSV. Maintain and drive research projects associated with our Bioscience Lab. Explore and drive new research opportunities, especially in Life Sciences.


Day to Day Responsibilities: Contribute to projects with deep scientific content that will lead to novel technologies or products for Corning Work with a diverse team of engineers and scientists on experiments and prototypes, specifically contributing with expertise in biotechnology, biochemistry, and biosensors. Identify new ideas for, and design new prototypes and lab experiments that are interesting for Corning. Build, test, and debug prototypes and lab experiments


Travel requirements (please note if international): Occasional Domestic. Travel to conferences and other Corning facilities for collaboration.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: M-F, standard work hours.


Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration): MS or PhD in Engineering or Physics from relevant field (materials, mechanical, chemistry), with either degree in or research focus in Life Sciences-related fields.


Required Skills (These are skills that candidates must possess): Capacity for hands-on laboratory work. Experience in cell culture and related techniques. Strong emphasis on safe work practices.


Desired Skills (these are the skills that would be nice for candidates to possess): Programming experience, lab instrumentation, characterization, prototype development, CAD, Machine shop skills (milling, cutting, assembly).


Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership): Good presentation skills, organization, project leadership. Capability to work on a multidisciplinary team.
