Role Purpose
- Support Corning glass / ceramic technology development and manufacturing process development in Asia.
- Build MTE Asia Material Science and Engineering technical capability to enable Corning Asia growth through stronger process performance, quality, and technology transfer.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead process improvement experiments and manufacturing studies; apply statistical analysis to identify root causes of process upsets and implement corrective actions.
- Use data-driven methods to reduce cycle time, improve manufacturing efficiency, and reduce yield loss; drive sustainable process control improvements.
- Support process engineering for finished products, including final inspection, data collection, and quality control methods to meet customer specifications.
- Define and assess material performance, process capability, and process requirements; partner on Stage 2–3 testing and Stage 4–5 technology migration.
- Transfer technology to divisions and manufacturing plants, including implementation of training and documentation (SOPs, process set-points, training materials).
- Collaborate across research, development, and manufacturing teams to develop and introduce new processes and new products.
- Communicate process control methodology and results to increase internal and customer awareness and confidence in process capability.
- Travel periodically to Corning Incorporated sites and vendor locations in Asia and the USA to support new product/process development and improvement projects.
Experiences/Education - Required
Education & Experience:
- Master’s degree in an engineering or science discipline such as Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Applied Chemistry, or related field; strong analytical, statistical, and mathematical skills.
- 3–5 years of experience in glass and/or ceramic process engineering.
- 3–5 years of experience with batching processes and glass/ceramic manufacturing operations.
- 2–4 years of experience in materials defect mechanisms, defect characterization, and failure/defect analysis.
Required Skills:
- Solid understanding of glass/ceramic batching processes.
- Working knowledge of physical properties of glass, ceramics, and glass-ceramics and how properties relate to process conditions and performance.
- Demonstrated capability in defect analysis and defect mechanism interpretation, translating observations into testable root-cause hypotheses.
- Hands-on experience planning and executing experiments, including phase transformation testing, analysis, and documentation.
- Data-driven problem-solving skills, including basic statistical analysis to understand variation, identify process upsets, and confirm corrective actions.
- Minimum 2 years of project execution/project management experience supporting process development, optimization, and continuous improvement.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills across R&D, manufacturing, and quality to drive implementation and sustainment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chinese
