The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

Job Summary:

This offered position is in Commercial Technology of Gorilla® Glass group. The candidate will be a key player in managing the assigned projects and in strengthening technical engagements with external customers. Internally the individual supports a cross-functional team tasked with developing next-generation innovative process and/or products and the work-streams leading to commercialization. We are looking for individual who can deliver the following objectives:

• Provide project leadership and support to assigned Gorilla Glass product introduction work-streams from technology, engineering and commercialization perspectives.

• Coordinate with the extended teams to execute work-streams. Leverage functional resources across Corning (globally) to provide the necessary support and resources required to achieve the business goals.

• Deliver success in engaging customer technically in early stage product innovation, leading to design-in of product, with sound approach and strong fundamental in materials engineering and mechanics of materials.

• Drive technical activities with customers and provide analyses and technical feedback to development team for validation of attributes to meet requirements.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities: Technical Project management:

• Lead the assigned project: planning, analysis and reporting status and plans to team and stakeholders;

• Assign work and coordinate the activity of work-streams, collaborate across functional teams and technology community to ensure project objectives are met;

• Develop and implement plan that meets the budget/financial target, quality and timeline requirements Engage external customer technically and drive related execution, and collaborate with new product program teams:

• Introduce new product innovation and articulate value proposition to customers;

• Understand customer’s technical requirements, testing and plan in evaluating new product and manage testing plan internally;

• Work with extended teams to conduct experiments to address technical challenges at customer;

• Perform data analysis and interpretation, and prepare technical messaging for external communication.

 

Qualifications:

Required Skills:

• Proficient in project management and methodologies

• Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in leading technical project teams supporting product introduction/development

• Strong fundamental in materials science and engineering, particularly related to mechanics of materials and solid understanding on glass

• Demonstrated ability to independently analyze, document test results and follow-up, and communicate effectively

• Ability to work on and solve complex problems requiring attention to details

 

Desired Skills:

• Ability to operate successfully in ambiguous environment

• Knowledge in mechanical and optical characterization technique and equipment

• Experience in product engineering of glass/ceramics, statistical analysis and reliability tools

• Understanding on touch technologies and related cover glass fabrication/processes

• Ability to communicate technical contents effectively in Chinese and English

Education and Experience: > 10 years of work experience in materials science/engineering after M.S. or PhD --- with demonstrated success in project leadership

Travel Requirements: Up to 50%
