Corning’s Display Technologies segment manufactures glass substrates for active matrix liquid crystal displays (“LCDs”) that are used primarily in LCD televisions, notebook computers and flat panel desktop monitors.

 

 

Purpose of the position: 
The qualified candidate will be primarily responsible for a technical role conducting fracture and failure mode analysis on a variety of Corning products, and work with other subject matter experts both as independent investigators and as a team. The role is also responsible to lead the FA (Fractography Analysis) team and participate the cross-functional projects for commercialized products.

  • Work with customers on understanding of the failure modes, and give design or glass quality recommendations. Collaborate with other reliability experts across Corning community.
  • Support mechanical testing with fracture data to develop stress/strength insight for various materials and configurations.
  • Other than FMA (Failure mode analysis), this job also requires to coordinate other mechanical and reliability assignment/projects.
  • Strong level of technical curiosity that will enable unique solutions to the technical challenges.
  • Ability to work in a team- based environment and participate on matrixed project team
  • Be responsible for identification of project resources that’s necessary to complete the project tasks, and coordinate the project teams efforts towards the success of achieving overall project objectives.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide Fractography support by performing and conducting fracture and failure mode analysis.
  • Report on customer request or project activities and ensure results meet the customer’s requirements and standards.
  • Take experimental notes and manage/track the samples submission from requests.
  • Be able to demonstrate advance skills and scientific knowledge in failure mode analysis.
  • Be able to manage multiple project activities, define scope and objective, set work priorities, achieve milestone and deliver quality analysis.
  • Provide technical consultation and expertise to the commercial organization and directly to external customers.
  • Provide on-site FMA support or training for external customers. Support would include majority OEM customers in Asia.
  • Work with Corning internal development groups on projects, including for process development and system-level testing

 

Education and Experience:  

Master degree or above. Mid-career with FA experience

 

Required Skills :

  • Have logical thinking on defining problems and analyzing experimental data
  • Be able to provide suggestion for customer based on the observations and results
  • Good English for writing and verbal communication
  • Experience of Failure mode analysis on brittle material is a plus
  • Experience on microscopic analysis ( optical and Scanning Electron Microscopy ) is a plus
  • Glass handling experience is a plus
