Scope of Position:

  • Scope of work includes producing sophisticated designs using Computer Aided Design (CAD) Tools.
  • Read and understand prints, provide detailed drawings and take accurate measurements.
  • Support tooling/fixturing design projects for new and existing products.
  • Working with other team members to tackle difficult technical, engineering related problems.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Design plastic and sheet metal parts using both 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • Supervise and manage new orders including design target dates and documentation of design reviews with associated action items.
  • Complete design packages including component drawings, assembly drawings, and the associated test plans. Perform mechanical simulations as needed for supporting documentation.
  • Control all drawings and documentation using Product Data Management (PDM) software.
  • Enter Bill of Materials with descriptions, quantities, drawings, and revisions into the planning system.
  • Ensure that drawings incorporate all design features and maintain the product style.
  • Contribute design modifications to improve the quality and function of the product. Project Responsibilities:
  • Revise mechanical drawings per approved “red-lines”. Build, track, and finalize the associated change orders.
  • Utilize 3D CAD to build detailed design models in support of Injection Molding and Prototyping efforts.
  • Work with Project Leaders to evaluate the feasibility of reducing the number of unique components in order to reduce complexity and cost.
  • Prepare models and other supporting documents for entry into the PDM system.
  • Gather feedback from internal customers on the proposed models and documents.
  • Understand Corning’s intellectual property management process and follows that process in documenting any intellectual property developed as part of a project. Collaborative Opportunities with Supervising Engineer:
  • Work with a supervisor to handle project priorities.
  • Develop innovative solutions for Bioreactor design and single use consumables design.
  • Understand, accept, and document Customer product requirements. Collaborate with Engineering, Materials and Manufacturing Engineers to understand specific mechanical or application requirements.
  • Utilize modeling and design software to create graphical representations of proposed solutions.
  • Contribute to the project plan to ensure timely execution of project.
  • Develop new solutions and intellectual property to enhance CLS’s technical leadership position.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing to design products that can be manufactured efficiently to deliver cost and quality targets.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Total Quality by consistently looking for ways to improve.

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

standard hours 8-5 with potential for flexibility

 

Education:

Associate degree in Computer Aided Design or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

 

Experience:

8 years related experience working with drawings, designs and schematics in a manufacturing environment.

 

Required Skills:

  • Mechanical design using 2D CAD.
  • Mechanical design using 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Able to make sound decisions using analytical thinking and practical judgment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Understand and apply GD&T.
  • Use of Microsoft Excel and Word.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Understanding of PDM Product Data Management systems (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Understanding of plastic parts and single use consumables.
  • Knowledge of materials (metals and plastics preferred).
  • Understanding of machining, plating and assembly processes.
  • Knowledge of metrology and sophisticated measurement technologies.
  • Mechanical stress / strain simulations (linear or non-linear Finite Element Analysis preferred).
