Scope of Position:

In this role as the Demand Planning Manager, you will be responsible for the Corning Life Science demand management process including the creation of domestic sales demand forecasts across the North American Region. You will support and work closely with Sales/Marketing, Business Operations, Product Development, Finance, Supply Chain to deliver effective consensus-based forecasts. We look for you to be accountable for forecast accuracy and scheduled reviews in support of inventory target levels, service levels, and manufacturing efficiencies. You will need to ensure alignment of the forecast with global business strategies, including financial projections. You will also develop and deploy appropriate demand management strategies to drive continuous improvement in the function.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Management responsibilities of the position include facilitating the operating performance of assigned Demand Planning Associates, as well as developing necessary skill competencies. General Responsibilities
  • Collaborate regularly with Sales, Marketing, Business Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Finance leaders to ensure the North America consensus process delivers a workable forecast (short and long term) and ensures alignment in strategy between demand, supply and financial plans.
  • Solicit and analyze upside/downside scenarios, ensuring gaps are addressed and issues are appropriately raised to meet business objectives.
  • Identify sales trends based on seasons, promotions, and historical sales.
  • Solicit, validate and utilize customer provided forecast data when appropriate.
  • Work with Sales, Marketing and New Product Development teams to develop and modify demand planning strategy as products are introduced and transition throughout life cycle phases.
  • Support the CLS Sales & Operations Planning Process (S&OP) through direct participation and functional leadership in New Activities, Demand, and Supply Steps.
  • Create, maintain, improve, and report critical metrics such as Forecast Accuracy and Bias.
  • Clear, concise communication of key data, analysis and messaging to partners.
  • Drive continuous improvement of Demand Planning and management processes.
  • Perform detail level analysis and modeling to identify the best statistical models, segmentation strategies and other efforts to improve Global supply chain performance.
  • Design, develop and implement demand planning systems and processes to meet goals or objectives.
  • Utilize existing ERP and planning systems as well as data analytics tools to create relevant alerts that enable the organization to handle exceptions and address gaps as needed.
  • Maintain documentation of demand planning processes, procedures and policies. Conduct regular reviews of these and assess opportunities for improvements. Establish measurements to monitor proper execution of these processes, procedures and policies.
  • Provide training and education on forecasting and demand planning tools and processes to demand planners and business operations.
  • Independently lead cross functional projects and participate on teams as required.
  • Directly supervises assigned Demand Planners on a day-to-day basis to drive forecast accuracy and process improvement.
  • Establish performance expectations and training/development plans for Demand Planning associates providing periodic feedback and supervisory direction. Appraises performance and provides input to annual compensation and development planning reviews.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise in CLS supply chain demand planning and management processes and systems.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry and intercompany standard methodologies, supply chain trends, and technologies.
  • Actively monitor, lead, and follow-up on potential business impact risks and provide solutions to enhance business performance.
  • Analyze root cause on service and performance issues, and implement corrective actions
  • Maintain accuracy of planning data in ERP and APS Systems Management and Leadership Responsibilities
  • As applicable, carries out Human Resource management responsibilities such as hires, job assignments, termination recommendations, transfers, promotions, salary actions, and performance reviews on time. Exercises responsibility for employee training, development, and motivating supervised employees. Ensures adherence to all applicable HR Policies.
  • Ensure CLS Demand Planning Organization develops and maintains subject matter expertise in key areas, by establishing and leading learning and development plans for team personnel.
  • Stays on top of US and non-US regulations affecting own area of management and aligns with those regulations. Initiates changes to practices and procedures to support compliance requirements. Communicates the need to compliance to members of own functional area. Brings regulatory compliance questions/issues to attention of next level management. Includes compliance to all applicable ISO and FDA requirements.
  • Use knowledge of security, health and safety procedures to develop policies and practices to ensure safety and security for employees and goods and a safe and healthy environment on site.

  • Participate in the development of the global supply chain strategy to provide Corning with competitive advantage and deliver on changing customer needs.
  • Lead the implementation and change management of the new division regional demand planning model including working with supply chain and business and commercial operations to ensure clear roles and responsibilities, defined RACI and well-defined processes.
  • Conduct assessment of current demand planning processes and system capabilities and develop a recommendation on system/tools upgrades needed to support business and supply chain strategies.
  • Perform Forecast Value and Segmentation evaluation to provide recommendations for handling flow of business or sales intelligence into the demand planning process. § Design and implement an improved monthly business intelligence gathering process with clear timelines, supporting data and meeting structure.
  • Develop upside/downside scenario planning processes in SAP IBP. § Support acquisition integration activities as required.

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 10-25% as needed.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Standard business hours, Monday – Friday.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration or related field.
  • Prefer Master’s degree or MBA.

Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Supply Chain systems: forecasting, planning, inventory management, warehousing and distribution.
  • Minimum 3 years leadership experience.

Required Skills:

  • Understanding of project management concepts and hands on experience as both a team member and leader.
  • Technical education and/or experience in query tools, data compilation and manipulation for trend analysis and suggested solutions.
  • Experience in S&OP (sales and operations planning) scenario planning and/or financial modeling.
  • Desire to lead and develop others.
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP & APS systems (SAP, PeopleSoft) and data analytics tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Excel, Access and Power Point) required.

Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

  • APICS (CPIM/ CSCP or equivalent) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated supply chain process improvements that have provided significant benefit for the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and implement planning processes.

Soft Skills:
