Purpose of the Position:

  • Partners with the Division Capacity Manager, Director of Portfolio Strategy and Management and other division leaders to ensure appropriate management of capital expenditures and delivery of key financial, strategic and business objectives for the division including footprint analysis and recommendations. The division expects to deploy at least $500M in capital projects 2021-2025.
  • Ensures project managers and key stakeholders in the appropriations requisition process receives the appropriate type and level of Finance expertise and support to understand the financial viability of business cases and the implications on the achievement of strategic and operational goals.
  • Partners with the Division Manufacturing Program Manager to shape the short- and long-term strategies to extend flexible and agile capacities and capabilities for business growth.
  • Ensures the successful implementation of global Finance business programs, processes, and procedures in support of corporate, function goals and objectives.
  • Ensures entity compliance with local regulations, Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, Corning policies and procedures and US GAAP.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partnering with commercial, manufacturing and Division leaders, identifies and assesses the financial implications (e.g. ROIC, IRR, PV/I, Payback, etc.) of manufacturing strategic investments, including capacity planning. Recommends appropriate actions to maximize financial performance.
  • Serves as the Division SME, Capricorn Finance SME and financial expert on matters pertaining to capital deployment strategy, spending policies and procedures. Establishes, disseminates and monitors adherence to best practices and expectations.
  • Manages division level capital spending to ensure timely and accurate completion of accounting activities, including fixed asset management.
  • Designs and implements actionable reporting and robust processes to monitor capital and project spending.
  • In conjunction with division leadership, develops monthly capital spending forecasts and its related impacts on manufacturing, revenues and balance sheet and cash flows, annual plans and five-year strategic plans. Monitors monthly results in comparison to forecast and plan and advise on course corrections as necessary.
  • Manages the capital approval process for appropriations request requiring Division and corporate level approvals.
  • Ensures appropriate support of divisional requirements and Corning Finance functions to include SEC and tax reporting.
  • Ensures a strong internal control environment. Comply with GAAP and Corning accounting policies. Maintain documentation in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404.
  • Other ad hoc functions and projects as assigned in support of division and business objectives.

Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or other technical degree.
  • Proven knowledge of US GAAP
  • 10+ years total experience; 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in strategy development
  • Experience in cross-functional collaboration to achieve business objectives
  • Solid experience in financial and cost modelling
  • Working knowledge of fixed asset management


  • MBA
  • Manufacturing support at a division/corporate level
  • 3+ years in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with Sarbanes Oxley
