Scope of the Position:

Corning one of the world’s leading innovators in materials science is seeking an experienced Technical Writer. This position is responsible for creating simplified user content, including training guides, standard operating procedures, process documentation, manufacturing documents, and software documentation. With subject matter experts’ guidance through the entire process, the technical writer will make complex information accessible to employees and the target audience. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive documentation that meets organizational standards.
  • Write user-friendly content that meets the needs of the target audience, turning insights language that sets our users up for success.
  • Research, outline, write, and edit new and existing content, working closely with various departments to understand project requirements.
  • Work with development and support leads to identify all documentation repositories, revise, and edit, and determine the best solution for data compilation and centralized storage
  • Assesses the audience needs for whom the technical and procedural documentation is intended; adjusts tone and technical terms used to meet those needs and to ensure understanding.
  • Plans writing processes and sets timelines and deadlines.
  • Creates diagrams, charts, and other visual aids to assist readers in understanding a product or process.
  • Evaluate current content and develop innovative approaches for improvement.
  • Update current SOPs to align with new processes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Travel Requirements:  Up to 5%.


Work Schedule:  This is a full-time position: 40 hrs. /wk. Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with the flexibility to support teams in Europe and Asia may be needed. Flexibility to work on-site in our Tewksbury, MA location or remote.


Required Education & Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of technical writing experience in life sciences, biotech or scientific environment or a related life science field and a bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Technical Writing, Computer Science, or an equivalent technical discipline.


Required Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex data in clear, concise text.
  • Excellent organizational skills and extreme attention to detail.
  • Ability to ingest highly technical concepts and organize into succinct, logically organized, and easily digestible content.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
  • Ability to edit and proofread work of colleagues.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software and the ability to create diagrams, charts, and other visual aids.
  • Experience creating user guides and online documentation.
  • Advocate of continuous improvement.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with ERP. i.e., PeopleSoft, SAP, etc.
  • Experience in Life Sciences or the Medical Device Industry.
