Scope of Position:

In this role, you will lead design engineering group, providing direction to other engineers to achieve goals in accordance with established policies. Works with other team members to solve difficult technical, product related problems. Supports or leads continuous improvement activities, new product introductions and cost reduction projects. Responsible for new product design of equipment and disposable plasticware for Life Science and Pharma Industry. Knowledgeable in 3D CAD, simulation software including Moldflow and FEA software. Manage projects, including development of and implementation of timelines and capital budget. Knowledgeable about high volume tight tolerance plastic component manufacturing processes.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Lead design engineering group including competency advancement of engineering staff, foster culture that values engineering capability, technical depth, and deployment of scientific method.
  • Direct product design using 3D CAD, FEA and Moldflow analysis to deliver robust, cost effective, solutions to support of advantaged products.
  • Provides problem solving support to production.
  • Actively participates with Product Development/Marketing Group for new product launches and projects.
  • Prepares Appropriation Requisitions (AR’s) with regards to capital expenditure for tooling equipment and automation.
  • Functions as a team member or team leader on focused projects.
  • Use statistical tools and DOE techniques in problem solving and process/product improvement.
  • Manage technical files and drawings to support Quality Inspection Criteria. Supports quality and ISO systems related to product design.
  • Initiates or suggests opportunities for improvement based on Lean practices.
  • Interprets and enforces company policies and procedures on a consistent basis.
  • Executes cost reduction and improvement (DMAIC) projects in line with business objectives.
  • Develops SME knowledge of simulation software, materials, and products Corning Restricted Project Tasks
  • Provides support for new product implementations as required.
  • Manages special projects as assigned

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 25% travel domestic and internationally.

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Standard business hours; Monday – Friday.

 

Required Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree required.

 

Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • Minimum of 7+ years of relevant experience in design of plastic components for medical/biopharma industry.
  • Minimum of 1+ years of prior leadership or supervisory experience.

 

Required Skills:

  • Progressive responsibilities in engineering leadership including experience in managing strategy, projects, new product design.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD, preferably Solidworks.
  • Knowledgeable in Moldflow simulation software.
  • Proficient in FEA.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Track record of delivering results.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in a technical field.
  • Project team membership.
  • Experience with multiple manufacturing processes and multiple functional groups.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

 

Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

  • Master of Science (Engineering or equivalent) or MBA degree.
  • Progressive experience with design of plastic components and systems for medical or biopharma industry.
  • Green Belt Certification.
  • Project Team Leadership.
