Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of Position: Provides mechanical support to improve process development and implementation of technologies for fiber optical systems, components, subassemblies, and connectivity solutions

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Build detailed technical & mechanical understanding for key process steps and product designs of fiber array units (FAU) and co-packaged optics (CPO) solutions
• Design and/or specify new or modify existing process fixtures to continually improve performance regarding cycle time and yield
• Transfer/Release of product & process designs from technology team to engineering team
• Creation of 2D and 3D drawings and integration into product lifecycle management system
• Function as a team member or team leader on focused projects
• Provide Corning with inventive solutions toward new development efforts
• Build effective relations and interactions with internal/external customers and stakeholders
• Communicate and document results in technical reports and presentations

Required Education: Master's Degree, or similar, in Engineering, Physics or optics/opto-mechanics related discipline

Required Skills: 

• 3-5 years prior experience in mechanical engineering and process/product design
• Proficient in CAD design (Creo preferred)
• Proficient with product lifecycle management systems (e.g. Windchill)
• Knowledge in product design methodologies: Agile Methodology, Rapid Prototyping

Desired Requirements: 

• Knowledge & experience with Optical Fiber / Fiber array units / Co-Packaged Optics
• Familiar with GD&T
• Familiar with manufacturing method- Milling, Turning, Grinding, Sheet metal
