Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of Position: Process Development and implementation of technologies for fiber optical systems, components, subassemblies, and connectivity solutions

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Build detailed technical understanding for key process steps and product design of fiber array units (FAU) and co-packaged optics (CPO) solutions
• Use statistical tools and Designed Experiments (DOE) to build fundamental understanding
• Execute root cause analysis to solve process problems and initiate process improvements
• Transfer NPI from Technology team to engineering team with Corning Innovation process, which includes component selection and evaluation based on customer requirements
• Function as a team member or team leader on focused projects
• Build effective relations and interactions with internal/external customers and stakeholders
• Provide Corning with inventive solutions toward new development efforts
• Communicate and document results in technical reports and presentations

Required Education: Master's Degree, or similar, in Engineering, Physics or optics/opto-mechanics related discipline

Required Skills: 

• 3-5 years prior experience in process engineering and/or product development
• Proficient in DOE, DMAIC, MEE, MSA methodologies for problem solving & process verification
• Experience in programming (Python or similar) and statistical analyzes

Desired Requirements:

• Knowledge & experience with Optical Fiber / Fiber array units / Co-Packaged Optics
• Experience in quality management of processes (Six sigma)
