Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position: Support Corning Mold Development Engineering in the mission of providing our customers with world-class tooling for new product introductions and capacity upgrades, including mold processing analysis during concept development, tool fabrication, qualification, and on-boarding. separating different types of data into structures that can be easily processed by computer systems. These individuals often focus on very specific issues such as way data moves from one system to another or even data redundancy problems. Major Roles and Responsibilities • Provide inputs from modeling and simulation to support the design for manufacturing (DFM) analysis, budgetary funding estimates, capacity utilization estimates, and materials consultation for new product introductions • Support the evaluation of final part designs, and determine the most cost effective mold design relative to manufacturing efficiency, long-term tool durability, and simplicity of tool maintenance according to Global Corning standards. • Support tooling solutions meet total project life requirements, optimize cavitation, meet or exceed cycle time targets, and minimizes material usage • Support product designer, mold designer and mold project engineer during concept development, fabrication, and final qualification of tooling • Initiate modeling and simulation process and ensure that tooling performance meets the out come of modeling and simulation. Projects involved with: o New product introductions o Capacity molds for expanding product lines o Continuous improvement projects o Research support for new technologies o Performance Excellence Projects o Urgent process-related issues impacting product quality or delivery o Fundamental understanding (MEE)Projects List two (2) or three (3) of the most complex decisions indicative of this function and its impact to the function, department and/or corporation (exempt positions only): • Determine manufacturability of plastic component concepts from Product Development Engineering (PDE) prior to acceptance for tooling. Provide rigorous DFM guidance to PDE for part function, ease of tooling, lowest cost solution, ease of manufacturability, and tool longevity Well designed and specified plastic parts will perform well in their intended application, allow for robust tooling solutions, and provide of a broad processing window • Thorough analysis of tooling concept designs as presented by tooling suppliers prior to release for fabrication. Experiential feedback provided to tool suppliers to enhance tool function, repeatability, economic operation, and ease of maintenance Comprehensive timely feedback assures adherence to program schedule, assures tooling will function correctly and efficiently upon completion • Selection of vendors based on alignment of capabilities to specific tool complexity and individual shop capacity. Determine appropriate region for tool manufacture for cost, quality, and project timing Correct placement of tooling projects will assure timely completion, and best-cost tooling solutions Skill and Knowledge Requirements •MS in Mechanical or Material engineering or Chemical Engineering or equivalent degree or higher •5+ years knowledge of modeling and simulation •3+ years of plastic product, assembly design and injection mold tooling Required Skills: • CAE software knowledge for injection molding. • Background: Polymer, rheology, fluid mechanics, basic coding skill • Detailed knowledge of all types of injection mold tooling • Thorough knowledge of secondary assembly and decorating processes • Ability to utilize all MS Office applications • Knowledge of tool steels and metallurgical properties • Thorough understanding of injection mold processing parameters and applications (cause and affect) • Affective verbal and written communication • Ability to lead or participate in cross-functional teams • Functional with 3D CAD software • Ability to travel (domestic and international) • Technical English and Mandarin language skills (written & spoken) Desired Skills: • Mold set-up and processing capability • Ability to trouble shoot with advanced problem solving tools • Familiarity with automation processes • Ability to operate machine tools
