Scope of Position:

Process Engineer leading process and equipment improvement projects within finishing operations including cut, coating, trim and glaze, and packaging.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Build expertise with the specific manufacturing equipment and processes on the finishing end of the tube manufacturing process

• Collaborate with the different plant locations to understand current state and issues, identify, and implement new opportunities in finishing for throughput improvement and improved equipment reliability

• Lead and co-lead process improvement and cost reduction projects based on rigorous analysis of process data, and utilizing the scientific method to develop, test, and prove hypotheses

• Prepare cost justifications and capital requests for any new equipment purchases that may be required to achieve project goals

• Ability to design and implement equipment solutions including conceptualization (CAD) through procurement or assembly

• Support the transfer of new technology, materials, and processes into production, including defining the acceptance criteria and leading the qualification process, and communicating progress and results to all stakeholders

• Use previous experience in identifying new opportunities and supporting solutions • Pull in other divisions or corporate resources as needed

 

Travel Requirements:

• Domestic Travel and International Travel (<25%)

 

Hours of Work:

• Typically, standard business hours, Monday-Friday

• Extended hours and weekend shift support may be required depending on nature of projects

• May need to support off shift as needed for 24/7 manufacturing and global business in different time zones

 

Education and Experience:

• B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 3-5 years of manufacturing experience (can include internships and co-ops)

 

Required Skills:

• Ability to work in a plant environment and work with all levels of the organization

• Strong equipment background and/or mechanical aptitude

• Strong technical fundamentals with process engineering skills

• Understanding of various mechanical conveyance systems, thermodynamics and process-equipment interactions

• The ability to learn new technology and processes quickly

• Able to handle multiple complex tasks and set priorities with multiple internal customers

• Solid trouble shooting, presentation and reporting skills

• Practical experience with basic statistics, familiarity with advanced statistical methods

• Strong working knowledge of MS Excel, including formulas and graphing functions

 

Desired Skills:

• Exposure to Lean and Six Sigma (DMAIC) principles

• Familiarity with Process Control and Process Discipline (PCPD) approach and Product Quality Architecture (PQA), Product and process development (Innovation Stages 2 & 3)

• Experience building strategies and defining road maps for business functions or an organization

• Demonstrated experience with various CAD software (Solidworks, AutoCAD, and/or Inventor)

• Prefer experience in tube handling and finishing
