Role Purpose
Works with other team members to solve difficult technical, engineering related problems. Supports or leads continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions and cost reduction projects. Supports drive to fundamental process understanding and lowest cost producer objectives. Supports the development and execution of plans to evaluate new technology or improvements in existing technology resulting in a superior product in terms of quality and/or cost. Understands Corning's Intellectual property management processes and follows that process in documenting any intellectual property developed as part of a project
Key Responsibilities
- Provides day-to-day problem solving support to production, development and research operations
- Trains operators and trades personnel on new equipment and processes
- Uses rigorous processes and technical knowledge to build detailed technical understanding for key process steps
- Functions as a team member or team leader on focused projects
- Trouble shoots material, process and equipment issues, identifies root cause and implements corrective action
- Implements and documents material, process and/or equipment changes
- Uses simple statistical tools and Designed Experiments (DOE) in process problem solving and process improvement; Uses more sophisticated statistical tools and DOE techniques in problem solving and process/product improvement
- Assure quality and repeatability of processes and products
- Supports new product introductions through equipment installation, process certification, documentation and training
- Assures safety of operators and equipment and Complies with safety and environmental regulations
- Develops SME knowledge of material, process and/or equipment in focused areas of manufacturing or engineering
- Executes cost reduction and improvement (DMAIC) projects in line with business objectives
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering preferred)
- Graduates in May 2025 are eligible for consideration, provided they fulfill all other necessary requirements.
- 2 plus years of manufacturing experience preferred (can include internships and co-ops).
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to assess equipment and systems for design improvements.
- Understanding of various mechanical conveyance systems, thermodynamics, and process-equipment interactions.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
- Hands-on troubleshooting experience with mechanical systems and process equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on root cause analysis.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating and presenting recommendations.
- Practical experience with basic statistics, familiarity with advanced statistical methods.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Excel, including formulas and graphing functions.
- Hours of work are Typically M-F, 8am-5pm with scheduled weekday and weekend on-call support.
- Extended hours and weekend shift support may be required depending on the nature of projects, production issues, or need to engage with employees working shift schedule.
- Travel of less that 10% Domestic and/or Internationally
Desired Skills
- Exposure to Lean and Six Sigma (DMAIC) principles.
- Familiarity with Process Control and Process Discipline (PCPD) approach and Product Quality Architecture (PQA).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Personal initiative and commitment.
- Organized with good planning and time management skills.
- Ability to build relationships within cross functional groups; team building skills.

The range for this position is $68,503.00 - $94,192.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
