Role Purpose
Corning’s summer internship experience is rich with hands-on learning. As our intern, you will provide process engineering support in the daily manufacturing of melting and forming tubing. Corning Pharmaceutical Glass is a world-leading supplier of high-quality glass tubing to the pharmaceutical packaging industry. Glass is the ideal material for pharmaceutical applications. With over 160 years of unparalleled glass expertise, Corning Pharmaceutical Glass is uniquely suited to supply high-quality pharmaceutical glass tubing to meet the rigorous needs of the pharmaceutical packaging industry. Corning Pharmaceutical Glass operations in the United States and Europe manufacture a variety of clear and amber borosilicate glass tubing, which is converted by our global customers into vials, cartridges, ampules and syringes for drug storage and delivery. The purpose of our Intern Program is to raise the bar on talent by strengthening our pipeline for entry level roles for our immediate and future needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Expected to learn glass tubing process and support of production with operations and engineering
- Application of analytical results to improving process performance and production yield, and design and implementation of process experiments
- Support plant-site manufacturing 4.0 AI (Artificial Intelligence) projects
- Implementation and integration of process monitoring tools
- Troubleshooting of process monitoring equipment
- Measurement of process monitoring tool performance
- Development of SOPs for process monitoring tool
- Candidate will work under the direction of an engineer to:
- Become familiar with tube manufacturing equipment and processes in a hot glass manufacturing plant
- Perform hardware installation of manufacturing 4.0 tools (cameras)
- Work with MTE AI team for the integration of software to the production floors for process monitoring tools
- Troubleshooting any equipment or software potential issues and develop SOPs for manufacturing 4.0 tool applications
- Develop new manufacturing 4.0 concept, and propose and plan experiments with understanding risk associated with each task
- Support basic process troubleshooting and identifying of root causes.

Experiences/Education - Required
- Pending Junior, Senior or Master’s in an Information Science, Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering major with advanced computer programming lessons or similar field.
- Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May 27th – July 31st, 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later.
- Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.

- Proficient with AI programming and Microsoft applications.
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Strong working knowledge of Al or machine learning programming skills (Python, , Pytorch, TensorFlow, etc)
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Familiar with using images and video machine learning frameworks
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated leadership or strong teamwork in accomplishing common goals.
- Practical experience with basic programming skills
- Comfortable with design and execution of experiments and document data / results in presentable format
- Seeks out engineers to gain process understanding. Listens to their concerns and seeks resolution within the functional area.
- Consistently communicates issues and concerns to stakeholders. Has strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate scientific concepts and data to others, in order to provide instruction and influence decisions.

- Effective communication & presentation skills (verbal and written)

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
