Scope of Position:

Corning seeks a motivated and strategic practitioner to lead our global public policy agenda and advocacy efforts. The Director, Global Government Affairs will work with the Vice President, Global Government Affairs, Corning business leaders, and government and non-government organizations to engage on the broad cross-section of Corning’s legislative and regulatory priorities including, but not limited to international trade, export controls, supply chain management, incentives, and stakeholder engagement. The Director will leverage a strong working knowledge of a multi-national legislative, regulatory, and political climate; demonstrated research, policy analysis, and organization skills; and the ability to develop strategy and execute tactics to achieve results for Corning priorities. This position is based in Washington, DC.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Policy Analysis and Development

  • Monitor and analyze the political, legislative, and regulatory landscape for developments that impact Corning’s international business priorities, providing intelligence and insights for key markets.

 

• Advocacy Strategy Formation and Execution

  • Work across Corning business units to develop and execute global public policy, commercial diplomacy, and government affairs strategy to achieve Corning’s business objectives in key markets
  • Develop policy communications strategies, messaging, plans and briefing materials for Corning’s business leaders and external engagement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement/Relationship Management
  • Lead Corning’s Washington-based outreach on all trade and international policy issues which impact the company’s footprint globally
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key U.S. and international government agencies and officials who focus on international trade, economic, national security, and commercial policies and regulations
  • Plan and participate in strategic events with the diplomatic community and visiting foreign dignitaries
  • Actively engage with international business, trade, and other public policy organizations to build support for Corning’s public policy and business goals.

 

Travel Requirements: Up to 25%, domestic and international

 

Required Education:

• Bachelor’s degree required • Masters or JD preferred

 

Required Years and Area of Experience:

• Minimum 10+ years progressive experience working in corporate government affairs or government agency (e.g., USTR, Department of Commerce, State Department)

• Substantive experience policy and advocacy success on international trade, incentives, and related international manufacturing and operations issues.

Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

• Experience working with the Departments of Commerce, Treasury, State, USTR, U.S. and foreign embassies, NGOs

• Proven experience as a project manager with a successful project delivery record

• Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in tracking trends in foreign policy, national security, and international economic policy

• Experience working with international operating issues and government advocacy, grant award expertise

• Ability to develop and execute strategies to achieve business objectives

• Knowledge and understanding of key policy issues of interest to Corning, including economic competitiveness, international trade policy, government incentives, supply chain resilience

• Experience managing an international government affairs portfolio with a proven track record of success.
