CORNING Precision Glass Solutions (PGS) is currently seeking an organized, self-motivated and energetic individual to support the PGS sales team in a commercial role, providing technical engineering expertise to customers, the sales team and new business programs for the PGS Business. This person must possess a strong drive to succeed, be proactive in supporting customers and following up on sales opportunities, have strong technical knowledge of microsystems (optical, electrical, mechanical) and solid understanding of underlying materials science principles, and present a professional demeanor which will reflect positively on PGS and our company image.


Responsibilities :

  • Sales Application Engineer, reporting to the Regional Sales Manager and Global Application Engineering Manager, will be responsible for supporting sales personnel and customers
  • The Sales Application Engineer will be the first point of contact for customers contacting PGS to enquire about products and solutions
  • The Sales Application Engineer will be responsible for selecting the best product(s) and systems solutions for all customer requirements, manage quality and technical issue resolution, and will be required to work with sales personnel, customer service and the global application engineering team to follow up on open sales opportunities to ensure these opportunities are converted to sales orders
  • Promotes Corning’s products and services to existing customers to differentiate Corning in the market place and secure new or extend existing selling opportunities
  • Identifies current and future customer service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and existing customers, and other cross-functional team members to understand customer requirements
  • Provides product, service, or equipment technical and engineering information for inbound technical support enquiries
  • Providing pre-sales technical assistance and product education
  • Prepares cost estimates by studying blueprints, plans, and related customer documents; consulting with engineers and other professional and technical personnel
  • Administers accounts, supports customer service with order entry and technical topics
  • Maintains frequent contact with the customer for after-sales support and to strengthen the relationship, continually assess Corning’s effectiveness in meeting the customer’s needs, and ultimately maximize sales penetration and customer retention
  • Collects market, customer, and competitor intelligence and insights and disseminates this knowledge across the function to inform sales, marketing, and technical strategies
  • Supports existing customers with issues related to logistics, qualification, and / or a variety of contractual terms
  • Educates and keeps customers up-to-date on product changes and new products
  • May work across countries to visit potential clients, ensuring that Corning is represented favorably and consistently across the region
  • Encompasses scientific and technological principles involved in product design and quality requirements, emphasis on compatibility between product and applications
  • Develops customer's staff by providing technical information and training
  • Prepares sales engineering reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing sales information and engineering and application trends
  • Contributes to sales, engineering effectiveness by identifying issues that must be addressed; recommending options and courses of action; implementing directives
  • Develops and manages technical specifications according to customer requirements
  • Supports development and growth of PGS businesses in EMEA region
  •  Interfaces with technical teams and plants worldwide
  • Provides road-mapping input for development of products, specifying performance and cost needs to win new growth opportunities
  • Analyzes competitive landscape and communicate learnings to understand the product’s market position
  • Participates in regional trade shows and conventions within territory to promote products
  • Up to 50% Travel Requirement, majority within EMEA


  • The ideal candidate would have a technical degree, preferably Bachelor, Master or PhD of Science degree in semiconductor manufacturing, micro-electronics and micro-systems, micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), physics or chemistry
  • Strong interpersonal skills are expected
  • Flexibility, strong communication skills, able to be a team player, able to prioritize, highly self-motivated personality is required
  • Can live with the current matrix organization
  • Would also be willing to relocate worldwide as a perspective for further career development
  • 3 years technical experience in glass materials or semiconductor manufacturing industry
  • A personal interest and curiosity in supported industries and technologies is vital
  • Customer interface experience preferable
  • The candidate should be at least bilingual: German and English, fluent in conversation and correspondence with a strong emphasis on technical language
  • Additional experience in other languages, preferably French, and/or Russian would be beneficial
