Scope of Position:
We are seeking a dedicated and technically skilled Controls Technician to join our Product and Process Development (PPD) group. The successful candidate will support the development and improvement of control systems for optical fiber manufacturing equipment and the implementation of new technology. This role requires a self-motivated individual with an understanding of electrical systems, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Support the design, installation, and troubleshooting of control systems for development equipment.
- Collaborate with equipment design engineers, processing equipment deployment teams, and manufacturing receivers during all stages of technology development.
- Provide training and documentation to support the transfer of new control systems and equipment.
- Configure and install data acquisition equipment to support product development.
- Develop data acquisition tools and analyze data.
- Document actions, testing results, observations, final project results, and research findings.
- Support a team of electricians during equipment installations.
Education and Experience - Required
- An associate degree in electronics engineering, electrical systems, mechatronics, or a closely related technical field is required with 0 – 2 years of experience working in the field. Alternatively, candidates without a degree should have at least five years of relevant work experience.
- Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude, with effective troubleshooting abilities.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical drawings.
- Ability to use test equipment such as digital multimeters (DMMs), oscilloscopes, and similar diagnostic tools.
- Basic understanding of programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
- Ability to draft a scope of work for an electrical installation team and manage the team to complete the installation.
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Solid decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education and Experience - Desired
- Minimum of two years of experience working in the field.
- Familiar with Beckhoff and Allen Bradley PLC platforms (PLCs, HMIs, drives, and safety systems).
- Familiar with National Instruments DAQs and LabVIEW.
- Experience with Autodesk Vault, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar design software.
- Interest in Structured Text, Python, C#, or C/C++.
- Exposure to machine vision tools and techniques.
- Familiarity with safety and electrical codes related to industrial equipment and electrical installations.

The range for this position is $48,438.00 - $66,602.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
