The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies.  Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes.  IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.

Role Purpose

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Networking Technician to join our IT team. The Networking Technician will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting computer networks and related systems to ensure optimal network performance and reliability in a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of networking concepts, hardware, and software, combined with excellent problem-solving skills and a customer-oriented approach.

Key Responsibilities

· Installing and configuring network hardware, such as routers, switches, and access points.

· Managing data cabling and physical network infrastructure to ensure clean and effective setups.

· Monitoring network performance and analyzing metrics to prevent or resolve outages.

· Diagnosing and troubleshooting hardware and software issues in the network environment.

· Supporting employees with network connectivity problems and providing technical guidance.

· Configuring firewalls, security settings, and secure VPN setup to protect sensitive data.

· Collaborating with IT teams to upgrade and expand network infrastructure.

· Documenting network layouts, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.

· Ensuring compliance with network security standards.

· Assisting with disaster recovery plans and implementing solutions.

· Install and configure network monitoring software and tools like routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points for real-time tracking.

· Manage LAN setup and install a secure Wi-Fi network as required.

· Perform regular maintenance, updates, and backups of network systems; and resolve network slowdowns by analyzing bandwidth usage and isolating issues.

· Collaborate with vendors to procure the latest network equipment or updates.

· Maintain accurate records of network configurations, inventory, and network troubleshooting activities.

· Work closely with other IT staff to ensure the integration of network systems with organizational needs. 

· Provide off-hours network support if/as-needed

Experiences/Education - Required

· Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, OR similar field/related experience.

· Knowledge of enterprise networking, including VLANs, quality of service (QoS), and wireless networking (802.11 standards).

· Proficiency in configuring and maintaining routers, switches, and other network equipment.

· Hands-on experience with network hardware and tools such as cabling, testing equipment, and network monitoring software.

· Experience in network monitoring, performance optimization, LAN setup, and WAN configuration.

· An understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS) and network troubleshooting tools (ping, traceroute).

· Familiarity with various networking protocols, including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, VPNs, and wireless networking (802.11 standards).

· Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools

· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills to assist non-technical users.

· Solid project management skills to plan and deploy large-scale network upgrades.

· Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Experiences/Education - Desired

· Relevant certification in networking or IT (CCNA/CCNP, CISSP, CompTIA Network+).

· 3-5+ years of combined experience in IT, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

· Familiarity with virtualization technologies and cloud-based networking solutions.

· Familiarity with VoIP systems and network integration for telecommunication systems.

· Experience working in structured data cabling and physical network design.

· Familiarity with virtualization technologies and cloud-based networking solutions.

The range for this position is $48,691.00 - $66,951.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
